Solved Samsung Galaxy S8 Randomly Not Detecting microSD Card

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 is  a flagship phone released last year which departs from the usual flagship designs of the South Korean company. This model got a design overhaul as it now does not have a physical home button. The front part of the device is mostly occupied by its 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display. This is one of the most powerful mobile devices in the market as it uses a Snapdragon 835 processor in tandem with 4GB of RAM. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 randomly not detecting microSD card issue and other related problems.

S8 Randomly Not Detecting microSD Card

Problem: I have an S8 and a 200g SanDisk Ultra Class 10 sdxc on Tmobile. This combination has worked fine for the last year, until the recent firmware update, right around the time people reported random photos being texted to their contacts (yikes!). Since that update my S8 is randomly not seeing SD card or it appears unmounted. This became especially frustrating when it came to my paid Spotify account. I travel/fly ALOT and I have 3,000 songs downloaded for offline use. Because when I’m in the not so friendly skies these days, I want tune all that “friendliness” out. So Murphy’s law strikes and right before I board, bam! Spotify doesn’t see sd card and all dl songs gone. All pics on my SD card also not visible… No SD card detected. When I remove the SD card and use in my HP ultrabook, no problem photos all there etc… Due to my OCD and I’m p*ssed… after exhaustive searching internet and formatting and FULL reformatting SD card via phone, laptop, wiping cache, using SD card in an S8 that hasn’t accepted latest update (no issues) etc. I THINK I may have figured out the “issue”. It APPEARS that when I use the camera shortly thereafter the phone doesn’t see the SD card. Yes, I take pics at the airport to send to family about my whereabouts. I have experimented over and over. Dl spotify songs use camera.. Bam songs gone… Dl spotify songs not use camera no problems… SO I currently changed my storage setting on S7 camera to device instead of SD card and SO FAR no issues… I have to manually transfer photos to SD card when they start clogging my device memory. Pain in the *ss. I am not an IT person… Just tenacious… What’s the chances the latest update pushed out caused an issue with the camera and SD card “compatibility”? I mean coincidentally there were photos being sent out from a phone… Seems camera is the common denominator here… I love my S8 and do not feel it is the phone and really don’t want to buy another fairly expensive (high gig size) SD card when I feel pretty certain neither is the problem. Firmware update seems likely culprit. Imo. Help!

Solution: If the problem is caused by a firmware update then this should be fixed in an upcoming update. In the meantime you can perform the troubleshooting steps listed below to eliminate the other possible causes of the problem.

  • Try using a different microSD card on your phone then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by a faulty microSD card.
  • To check if the problem is caused by a software glitch you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S8 Unable To Save To microSD Card Error

Problem: I have a Galaxy S8, and I’ve been using the same 32gb microSD card for months without problem. The camera automatically saves pictures to the SD card when I take them. But last week, I took a picture and it said “unable to save to sd card” and switched over to my phones internal storage. All of my previous photos on the SD card were still there, but I couldn’t add any more. And I was only using 5gb on the SD card. I took the microSD card out of the phone and put it back in and the phone didn’t even detect the card. I know my pictures are still on it because I could see them before I initially took the card out, but now it’s like the card doesn’t even exist. I don’t know what to do

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to remove the card from your phone then let your computer read it. If you are able to access the card and the photos are present then I suggest that you immediately make a backup copy. Format the card once you have made a backup copy of its contents. After the format is done use the card in your phone again. If you still get the same issue then I suggest that you try using a new microSD card as the card you are using might already be faulty. You should also consider doing a factory reset on the phone to eliminate any software glitches that could be causing the problem. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S8 Low Storage Space Error

Problem: Hi, my S8 has run just about out of space & rather quickly. I barely have any apps & never downloaded many. Im wondering why this seems to be an issue with this phone & how do I fix it(if possible) I haven’t even done the most recent update in part due to space but also hate how it messes with apps. My battery also drains VERY fast, have to recharge at least once a day.The memory on this cell is the largest I’ve ever had & know that with all my other cells (16 & 32 GB) I never used that up & had more apps as well as stuff saved than this. Any reason(s) it does this & how do I fix it? Is the battery issue related to the lack of memory issue? Going to try the battery remedies you shared for this cell. Thanks!

Solution: If your phone still has sufficient storage space available but you are getting the low storage space error then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete the problem should be fixed. As for the battery drain issue in case it still happens after the reset then you phone might need a new battery. I suggest that you have this checked first at a service center.
