J7 Stuck In Recovery Mode
Problem: Hi, I have Samsung Galaxy J7 and I attempted to put my phone in recovery and it crashed with the android guy underneath a triangle with an exclamation mark. The Android Recovery screen appeared and now the screen is stuck. I cannot scroll up or down on the screen using the volume keys and there is a message at the bottom of the screen and I will type it verbatim:
#fail to open recovery_cause (No such file or directory)#
#Reboot Recovery Cause is [UNKNOWN]#
No Support SINGLE-SKU
File-Based OTA
Supported API: 3
# MANUAL MODE V1.0.0#

Please help if you can, I do not want to lose this phone as it has precious pictures of my kids on it! Thank you in advance. I am also unsure of what android version it is operating at.
Solution: If your phone has a microSD card installed then remove it. Once removed do a soft reset by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. If the issue still persists then you should try starting the phone in Safe Mode. If the phone starts in this mode then the problem is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. Another troubleshooting step you can do is to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider doing a factory reset in recovery mode. Take note that this will erase your phone data.
J7 Keeps On Restarting After Software Update
Problem: my Galaxy J7 had just updated to the most current android software but wouldn’t stop turning off, I thought it was the software so after trying soft resets to hard resets i finally just did a manufacturer reset. Now though the phone will start up say then it will say that its starting android, say its installing applications and than just reset and do it all over again.
Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to start the phone in recovery mode then from here perform the following.
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone.
- Perform a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.
If the issue still persists after performing the above steps then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
J7 Touchscreen Not Working
Problem: Straight talk Galaxy J7 about 5 months old and touch screen stopped working out of the blue. Screen has no crack. All of the buttons work. Phone charges, receives calls, everything seems to work fine except the touch screen. I have tried all the restarts and a factory reset and the touch screen still doesn’t work. Any ideas?
Solution: If you have already performed a factory reset and the touchscreen still does not work then it’s very likely that the digitizer of the device is not working. You will need to have this checked at a service center.
J7 No Notifications After Software Update
Problem: I don’t receive any notification icons up in the top drop down bar anymore. Not texts, FB messenger, and not even whether I have a missed call. The sound works for calls but not for texts and yes I do have the sound set to “on” for texts but all I get is vibrate. I have been through the settings and setting the notifications “on” but still nothing. Voicemail doesn’t show when someone leaves a message either. I have to click on the app to see if there are any in there. Same for texts. This is the Galaxy J7. Update was Aug 18th.
Solution: It’s likely that this problem is caused by old software data that has not been completely removed during the software update. This old data is now causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this problem. The best thing you can do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
