Solved Samsung Galaxy J3 Only Charges From USB Port

The phone is good for checking your social media networks, making calls, and sending/ receiving text messages. Just don’t expect it to perform well in the gaming department. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy J3 only charges from USB port issue and other related problems.

J3 Only Charges From USB Port

Problem: From a couple of days ago, my phone stopped charging with the official Samsung charger that I received with my phone. I checked the fuse of the plug and checked the cable but no problems. I also bought another Samsung fast charge plug, but it still doesn’t charge. The only way I can now get it to charge is to plug it via the cable into my ps4 which obviously does not have enough power to charge my phone efficiently (taking around 6 hours for it to charge fully). Do I need to get my phone checked or is there anything I could do at home? I don’t know if you would have heard of this problem before.

Solution: Since you have already isolated the charger of the phone then it’s time to troubleshoot the phone itself. First clean the charging port of the phone as sometimes dirt or debris stuck in this port can cause charging problems. You can use a can of compressed air to clean this port. Check if the phone charges using a wall charger. In case it doesn’t then it’s likely that one of the pins of the charging port is damaged. You will need to have this checked and repaired at a service center.

J3 Keeps Turning Off After Getting Wet

Problem: On Friday I took my phone in the shower, no case, and got the top of the back of the phone (by the camera) under the shower head for ~3 seconds. The front of the phone didn’t really get wet at all and the water fell off the back in such a way that the ports at the bottom did not get wet. I didn’t even get the “wet port wont charge” warning – which I have momentarily experienced before if the phone is in wet pants. Still, I thoroughly and completely dried the whole phone with a soft towel and left my phone on the counter. My phone and I were out the humidity of the bathroom within 20 mins total time. Yet a few hours later “it” starts happening. It keeps turning off if its locked for more than just a few minutes. If the screen is on then it never has turned off. But even though I have always-on-display turned on, once the phone is locked and showing my clock, it’s only a matter of moments before it turns off. Also, if I’m playing music it doesn’t happen. Turns on fine and functions perfectly normal other than that. Just annoying when I have to turn my phone on everytime I take it out of my pocket on the go. Also, I use my phone as my alarm clock so I’m worried it’s not going to go well Tuesday morning when I need to wake up for work at 5:45 AM. Any ideas of solutions will be greatly appreciated. Solution: It’s very likely that this problem is caused by moisture entering the phone. The best thing that you can do right now is to place the phone in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. Once this is done charge the phone ( if the battery level is low) then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then the phone is most likely water damaged in which case you will need to have this checked at a service center.

J3 Top Screen Is Black

Problem: Samsung J3 screen went black at top half and purple on bottom half. Did a soft reset. Tried restarting it but still the same problem. It’s not water damaged and I’m not aware of it being dropped recently.

Solution: The best thing to do right now is to start the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then there’s a possibility that this is caused by a software glitch. You will have to do a factory reset in this mode. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

If the screen does not work even in recovery mode then it’s likely that the display is damaged. You will need to have this checked at a service center.
