Solved LG G6 Wi-Fi Stops Working When Phone Is Idle

This model is a flagship phone released last year that has several outstanding features. The phone has a waterproof body with a 5.7 inch IPS LCD display that is HDR10 and Dolby Vision compliant. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 821 processor which when combined with its 4GB of RAM allows the device to run apps smoothly. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the LG G6 Wi-Fi stops working when phone is idle issue and other related problems.

LG G6 Wi-Fi Stops Working When Phone Is Idle

Problem: Good Morning, My issue too Is with Wi-Fi. While my phone is using Wi-Fi, I.e., YouTube the connection is stable. However, while idle for more than five minutes the connection drops and says in the network settings” Wi-Fi disabled”. When I go to reconnect it will say either poor signal or saved. It usually takes a full minute in order to reconnect. This only happens on my phone. All other devices are fine. This only started when my phone offered the Oreo update on Aug. 24, 2018. I’ve done all your suggestions except factory reset which I’m reluctant to do. I was hoping enough people have had the same issue and an update would be forthcoming to remedy the issue. I honestly have to reconnect 100 times a day. AT&T and LG support both have been of no use.

Solution: The first thing you need to do in this case is  to check the Wi-Fi sleep policy setting of the phone and make sure that the Wi-Fi stays on even when the screen is off.

  • Swipe down from the top of the screen
  • Tap and hold on the Wi-Fi icon
  • Tap the Menu icon
  • Tap Advanced Wi-Fi
  • Tap Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off
  • Tap your desired sleep policy

In case the problem still persists then this is most likely caused by a software glitch. The best thing you can do right now is to perform a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

LG G6 Not Detecting SIM Card

Problem: I have aLG G6 for almost a year and suddenly it has stopped detecting the SIM card. I’ve run the phone on safe mode in case an app glitch was the culprit, I’ve also tried a factory reset and I’ve even replaced the SIM slot with an new one, but nothing seems to do the trick. The SIM card is fully factional though (I’ve tested it with another device) and I don’t think it’s an antenna problem cause there is no issue with the emergency calls. I’m thinking of replacing the logic board as well, but I’m pretty sure I’ll face firmware issues and stuff that will make the things worse. Is there something else that I could do to save this phone from the scrap yard? I used to have the SIM card detection error before, but the forced restart the phone was making me do, would fix the problem, but now it’s whole different story. After the last restart when the SIM stopped being detected the phone reboot without asking for my SIM card Pin and although the signal icon was showing that there was nothing wrong with the signal itself, I couldn’t make or receive calls and text messages. I’ve also tried to run some tests with the help of the secret code menu, in order to find where the actual problem was, with no success.. I would very much appreciated if you could help me fix my favorite phone myself, cause the Geek LG customer service department is expensive, unreliable and they’ll probably ask me to buy a new  phone, and I’m not ready yet for another device. Keep in mind that I’m not some kind of a tech-freak, just an average guy willing to do the “dirty” work by himself, so keep it simple if you please. Thank you in advance.

Solution: If your SIM card works on a different device and you have already tried replacing the SIM slot of the phone which doesn’t fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty component in the main  board of the phone. To pinpoint the exact component that is failing to work you will need to bring this to a service center.

LG G6 Not Connecting To Wi-Fi Network After Software Update

Problem: So, two days ago, my Samsung galaxy LG G6 received a update to Android Oreo. I updated and i noticed that after 5 minutes using the new update, i lost connection, saying it was authentication problems. I selected to “forget network” and re-entered the password. After that, i received the notification “internet may not be available” i clicked on it again and after that, connected again. After 30 minutes, this happened again and so on. Today i came to the point to reset to factory, didn’t work. I’m getting really impatient with it. I want to know if it’s possible to reverse the update or if there is a solution yet, cause i can’t find it. Ps: as i typed, the internet lost connection again.

Related Problem: I have a G6 and the wifi was not working on it, it was highlighted but very faint instead of the dark blue.  No matter what I did I could not get it working. So I tried a factory reset, after that it starts the setup process, but does not detect any wifi networks, it says I need wifi to continue, and says to turn on wifi, but it will not let me turn it on.  It will not drop down the menu at the top.

Solution: If the problem still occurs even after doing a factory reset then it’s very likely that the Wi-Fi chip of the phone has been damaged. The best thing you can do right now is to bring the phone to  service center and have it checked.
