S5 Screen Glitches When It Is Cold

Problem: I have a galaxy s5 and this is the SECOND phone giving me the SAME issue. It’s winter time here in NYC. The cold is inevitable. My phone screen turns black and glitches and is super fuzzy for anywhere from 2 mins to 30 minutes making my phone unusable. My last phone did this also and they gave me a new one. And now it’s happening again. I’m afraid one morning I’ll wake up and it won’t work at all. If my phone feels cold it begins to do this until it warms up.. but it’s frustrating. Is it because the cold causes moisture in the phone? Is this a common issue?

Related Problem: Galaxy s5 screen stays dark when it has the slightest chill. When given a source of heat for several seconds it is only then able to turn on. It is the screen only. Phone will ring and receive notifications

Solution: Smartphones are designed to work ell even in cold weather. There is however a certain threshold wherein the phone will  fail to work for example if the temperature is minus 22 degrees. Some phones can stay powered up when the temperature is minus 5 degrees yet using it under this condition will result in temporary issues such as apps refusing to work.

In your particular case the phone screen glitches when it is snowing. Unless your phone is exposed to the snow for a long time it should not act this way. Chances are there are some bad component contacts in your phone or moisture might be entering the phone when it is cold. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center that specializes in board level repairs.

S5 Won’t Respond To Touch

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone that suddenly won’t respond to my touch.  Whenever I try to get it to work, it simply vibrates in my hand I can’t get it to do anything.  I’ve removed the battery for over 10 minutes and then replaced it, the screen asks me to type in my emergency password, but the typeface won’t register my touch and the letters I type aren’t registered on the screen.  One of your suggestions is to start it in safe mode, but I don’t know how to do that.  Can you help.  The problem began suddenly, I was using the phone stopped, the screen went to time out, when I tried to restart it was when everything froze.

Solution: To start your phone in Safe Mode just follow the steps listed below.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode

When your phone is in Safe Mode check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Should the issue still occur even in Safe Mode then you should try to do a factory reset from the recovery mode.

  • Switch off your phone.
  • Boot into Galaxy S5 recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up, Home and Power keys at the same time.
  • Release all three buttons when Samsung Galaxy S5 screen flickers and the main screen of Recovery mode appears.

Take note that your phone data will be erased when you do a factory reset.

If the reset fails to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Will Not Light Up

Problem: My galaxy s5’s screen will not light up? the menu & return button light up & I can hear sounds from the phone but the screen is black. I’ve tried to navigate and reset but I can’t see anything. Also I don’t want to loose any pics

Solution: Try starting your phone in recovery mode and check if the screen works in this mode. If it doesn’t then there’s a chance that the screen is faulty. You will have to get this replaced at a service center.

If the screen works in recovery mode then this could just be caused by a software glitch. Turn off your phone then remove its battery and microSD card ( if you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute to discharge the phone circuit and clear its RAM. Reinsert the battery then turn on your phone. If the screen is still black then connect the phone to a computer with Kies running then use the software to backup your phone data. Once this is done bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Is Black

Problem: My screen is black, but the led light, and buttons on the bottom are lighting up. The sound also still works, i have spent the entire night trying everything possible to fix my phone but nothing is working and I don’t know what to do now.

Solution: To fix this problem you should try starting your phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then the problem could be caused by a software glitch. I recommend that you do a factory reset in this mode. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

If the screen doesn’t work even in recovery mode then either the display is defective or its connection to the motherboard has become loose. If this is the case then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Freezes Then Restarts

Problem: Hi, I’ve a problem with my S5. Lately, my phone begins to freeze and after this, the phone restarts… I can hear the initial sound, but the screen that I see is a static screen…so, I remove the battery and after all, the phone works normally… at the beginning, I have ignored this problem, but now it happens often….how can I fix this problem? Thank you for your help…

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does then this could be causing the problem. Try removing this card then check if the issue still occurs.

If your phone doesn’t have a microSD card installed or if  the problem still occurs even with the microSD card removed then you should proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Does the phone freeze and restart in this mode? If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Facebook Not Responding

Problem: Every time i use facebook on my samsung s5 active and i try to watch videos only a few videos may play but after a while it freezes up the phone then says facebook is not responding, what would you like to do? So most times i logout and restart my phone to get it back up and running. What can i do to solve this problem?

Solution: Does this issue only happen when watching videos using the Facebook app? If it does then you should try clearing the cache and data of the Facebook app. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should uninstall the Facebook app then download an updated version from the Google Play Store.
