S5 Screen  Dims And Flickers At Low Brightness

Problem: Hi I’m having a screen problem with my galaxy s5. When I lower the brightness of my phone to about 2mm on the brightness indicator bar, the phone starts to flicker. From the bottom of the screen is very bright, about 2 inches. The rest of the screen dims and flickers. Then if I toggle the brightness indicator all the way to the left, my screen flickers and a bunch of small horizontal lines appear. The screen color turns from normal into greenish blueish. My current band-aid to the problem is to move the brightness indicator to the halfway point, but I can see the problem reoccurring when just before the phone automatically turns off the screen a bunch of greenish lines appear. Also sometimes when I try to wake up my phone, the phone would light up except my screen. It takes a couple of pressing the power button to get the screen to light up. I have tried wiping the cache partition but the problem remained. I have tried booting into safe mode and the problem appears. Please help me.

Solution: There are several factors that you should check that could contribute to this issue. Since you already tried starting the phone in Safe Mode then we can eliminate any third party app that could be causing this problem. What you should do next is to try turning off the auto brightness setting of the device since there are instances when the sensor has a hard time detecting the surrounding light levels which in turns causes the screen to flicker. Another troubleshooting step that you should consider doing is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete try to check if the issue still occurs.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then this could already be caused by a faulty display assembly. I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.

S5 Screen Flickers Green At Low Brightness Setting

Problem: I have a galaxy s5 and it’s a perfect condition phone never been dropped or wet but 1 day I left my brightness all the way down and now my screen spazzes green whenever the brightness is all the way down but is perfectly fine when it is up what can I do to fix this?

Related Problem: It started with the screen flickering bright green whenever the lighting was low. But not long after that, it began flickering then turning black when I tried to turn it on.  It’s practically unusable now.  It occasionally works when I warm up the screen quite a bit beforehand.  I recently cracked the screen now and don’t believe I’d be able to exchange it.

Solution: One potential fix to this problem is to go to the developer options of your phone. Go to Settings – System – About Device. Find the Build Number then fast tap on it 6 times. Go back to the phone’s Home screen then go to Settings -System. A new setting called Developer options will now appear. Access this setting then go to the Drawing Section or Rendering Section. Find “Turn off hardware overlays” or “disable hardware overlays”. This makes the phone use the GPU for screen adjustments. Several people who have experienced this same problem used this procedure as a fix.

If the above step fails to fix the problem then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be a hardware related issue.

S5 Screen Is Black When Phone Is Cold

Problem: Push the home button to turn on screen, I can hear it come to life and the two buttons light up but the screen stays black, although it is active and can be unlocked whilst black.  This only seems to happen when the phone is cold.  Please any ideas to fix this?

Solution: This is already a hardware related issue that needs to be checked at a service center. The possible causes are corrosion build up in the phone circuit ( which can easily be cleaned by a technician using a cleaning solution), a loose connector ribbon between the display and motherboard, or even a faulty display assembly.

S5 Display Is Slow

Problem: Hi there! I had a question about my Samsung Galaxy s5 G500-A. For a while now my phone’s display had been incredibly slow. I cannot find any fixes after trying to google with similar keywords. I have tried everything to fix it. I have turned it off and on again many times, I’ve taken out the battery, I have even launched it in safe mode! No matter what I do, whenever I turn on my phone, the phone is incredibly slow. Even the samsung logo that changes colors runs at 2 frames or so per second.

Solution: For this particular issue I’d recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install anything in your device yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should bring your phone to a service center then have it checked.

S5 Screen Turns Yellow Then Off When Unlocked

Problem: Hello, my problem is that my screen when I try to unlock it, flashes yellow at me then the display dies making me unable to use my phone. I have tried doing a soft reset, a hard reset and even a factory reset and nothing seems to be working. I have also noticed my phone becoming slower and not working like it used to but I can live with that. I just need to know how to fix my screen being unresponsive. Feel free to email me if you have any further questions, I hope this problem can be fixed.

Solution: Since a factory reset fails to fix the problem then this could already be a hardware related issue possibly due to a faulty display assembly. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Getting Data When Screen Is Smashed

Problem: Hi, I have smashed my screen and it’s now just black and won’t light up. I can receive messages and calls so I know it’s working but I just want to know how to get the photos off it before I get a new one. It’s a samsung galaxy s5 LTE. Thanks

Solution: You could try connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies running and let the software backup your phone data. If this doesn’t work then you will have to get the display repaired first before you can retrieve your phone data.

S5 Brightness Lowered On Its Own

Problem: Hello, I  have a Samsung Galaxy S5. Twice the Brightness has lowered where I can barely see it.  I went to Brightness and it had gone down to almost nothing. Easy fix .(don’t know how that happened. I did not touch it…?  It just happened again. This time when I went to the Display/Brightness, it was lighter than the other icons and wouldn’t open…??!!! What do I do  I just turned it on , took 3 times to stay on.  UGH !!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought my phone was a S3??  It was a refurbished one. $250!!!!!

Solution: Try turning off the auto brightness setting of your phone as this might be the reason why the brightness setting has lowered. You should also check if an app you download is causing this problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. If the problem doesn’t occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

If the reset fails to fix the problem then I recommend that you have the phone checked at a service center.
