Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen Has Colored Dots After Drop Issue & Other Related Problems

The screen of a smartphone is probably the most delicate part of the device. This is the reason why manufacturers have reinforced it by  using Gorilla Glass for example. Consumers are also doing their part by applying a screen protector which adds an additional layer of protection. The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is one such model that has Gorilla Glass 3 protection. While this strengthens the display it does not completely protect it from damage. For this installment of our troubleshooting series we will concentrate on the screen issues of this phone model.  Get ready as we tackle the Galaxy S5 screen has colored dots after drop issue & other related problems.

S5 Screen Has Colored Dots After Drop

Problem: OK so i dropped my phone while walking home from school, when i picked it up the top portion of the screen had a whole bunch of cracks. The phone had turned off when I turned it on it had a whole bunch of tiny yellow, blue, green, red, black, and white dots on it. I took out the battery and put it back in and it worked fine for a few weeks, and then I was sitting in class and it fell out of my pocket and started doing the little dot thing again. I got it to work for about an hour then it started to do the dot thing again and this time i can’t fix it. I’ve tried some of the tricks on your page and none of them work my next step is replace the whole screen. Please help me I have NO idea what to do?

Solution: The dots that you can see on the phone display could be related to the drop or it could be a software related problem. The best way to proceed in this  case is to first check if the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. To do this just start your phone in Safe Mode. When your phone is working in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If no dots appear on the screen then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this could already be a hardware related issue. The possible causes are a damaged display or a loose connection between the display and the motherboard. I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.

S5 Screen Not Turning On

Problem: Hello, I own a Galaxy S5 and wanted to open it because it has been making issues lately. It first began with broken sensors and main microphone (installed new roms several times, no change), then more recently it started to turn off as soon as it was bent slightly, taking it out of my jeans pocket was enough to let it turn off. Since a couple days it also happens randomly and then it doesn’t start and sticks at the “Galaxy S5 G900F – Powered by android” screen. I have to let it restart for a couple minutes until it finally boots up. Because of this and some loose part inside the phone (it was the camera) I opened up the phone but now the screen doesn’t turn on, not even at all. While taking the phone apart I accidently cracked the LCD-display a bit, though I don’t know if a crack in the LCD means completely death of the whole screen. Do you know more about this? Thanks for your time and best regards

Solution: If the LCD of your phone has a crack then this is the most likely reason why it does not work anymore. You might want to start the troubleshooting by replacing the whole screen assembly since this is the most obvious component that is damaged. Replacing the display is not an assurance though that the phone will be working afterwards as there might be other components in your phone that have failed to work. The best way to deal with this problem is to bring the phone to a service center that’s capable of doing board level repairs and have it checked.

S5 Screen Black After Drop But Notifications Still Working

Problem: Hey, My phone fell and the screen got blank however you know the phone is on since you can hear if it rings etc. The screen is not crack and the button left of the phone you can see the touchpad still lights up, what’s wrong?

Solution: The issue of the screen becoming blank after a drop but notifications still work is usually caused by either a damaged display or a loose connection between the display and the phone motherboard.  Start the troubleshooting by checking if the problem is software related by starting the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then I recommend that you do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this. If the screen doesn’t work in recovery mode then I suggest that you bring your phone to a service center and have it  checked.

S5 Green Lines On Screen

Problem: When I click on the button to unlock my phone, it shows a green screen or green lines and instantly turns off again and I have to click at least 60 times (I counted) until the normal screen turns on and I can use it. It is very annoying and also when I put my phone in the lowest light, it shows these green lines again and my phone is impossible to use

Solution: The quickest way to deal with this issue is to backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then it could be caused by a faulty display. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center if this is the case.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: touch screen unresponsive every so often.  waiting 5-10-20 seconds sometimes regain responsiveness.  usually I just turn off and on again (and have to enter password each time – a pain in the butt) and when the phone comes back the screen usually works again,  Very frustrating when a call comes in and I press “pick up phone”  and my phone doesn’t answer and I lose the call.

Related Problem: Hello Droid Guy I have an s5 active and after the last update from Samsung my device’s screen needs to be tapped twice for most screen interactions …not during typing though…weird and annoying but phone is fully functional…I have done soft reset no difference. Thanks for your help

Solution: To troubleshoot the unresponsive screen issue follow the steps listed below.

  • Does your phone have a screen protector installed? If it does then try removing this as this might be interfering with the phone operation.
  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Will Not Completely Go Into Sleep Mode

Problem: My wife’s S5 will not completely go into sleep mode at times. The screen dims, but will not go completely to sleep. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Solution: It’s very likely that an app you downloaded is causing this issue. Try to start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the problem occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then find out what app is causing this issue and uninstall it. If the problem occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
