S5 Charger Not Compatible With Device
Problem: Whenever I try and plug my device in it gives me a pop up saying that this charger is not compatible with my device. Even though it is the original charger, I tried using other chargers but the same pop up happens.
Solution: This issue usually occurs when the phone detects that the current coming from the charger is not within its acceptable range. This is a feature that protects not only the phone circuit but the battery as well. Since you are using the original charger ( which is designed to provide the correct current) and have also used other chargers then there may be other factors involved as to why this issue is happening.
Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you need to do for this kind of issue. Perform each of the steps listed below then check if the issue still occurs. Move to the next step should the problem still persist.
- Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw.This will take out any dirt or debris that may be stuck in the port which usually causes charging problems.
- Try using a different charging cord. Sometimes this cord gets broken due to the fact that it is constantly coiled or bent.
- Check if the phone software is causing this problem by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset,
- Try using a new battery.
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware. If this is the case you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Not Charging After Marshmallow Update
Problem: I am having charging issues. My phone recently updated to marshmallow and now it doesn’t seem to recognize when I plug it in to charge it. I tried the soft reset and it does the same thing, it charges for a second but then makes a noise like I unplugged it. I’ve also tried safe mode and it seems to be charging but very slowly and still makes the noise occasionally like I unplugged it.
Solution: Have you tried using a different charger and charging cord when charging the phone? This way you can check if the present charger you are using is causing the problem. Before charging the phone with a different charger make sure to clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. This will take out any dirt or debris that could be in the port which usually interferes with the charging process.
Since the problem occured right after the phone got the Marshmallow update you should also try doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure. The reset will delete any old software data that could still be in the phone which is now causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue.
If the issue still occurs then try getting a new battery as the one you are using could be causing the problem.
If the above steps fail then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Does Not Hold Charge
Problem: i usually charge my phone at night. so i go to charge it like its nothing. i wake up and it’s dead. i tried everything. tried different things everything but changing the battery or getting a new one. it charges. has that little lightning bolt on it. than a few minutes go by and it says 0% and has a green dot at the bottom. it’s blinking. i can turn it on from there but it just doesn’t hold the charge. don’t know what else to do.
Solution: In cases such as this the usual culprit is the battery. Your phone battery may not be holding its charge like it used to which is why this problem is occurring. Before replacing the battery you should check first if other factors are involved in this issue by following the troubleshooting steps listed below. Check if the issue still occurs after performing each step and move on to the next step should the problem persist.
- Try charging the phone with a different charger and charging cord.
- Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. Charge the phone for 20 minutes.
- Backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
If the issue persists after following the steps listed above then you should try getting a new battery.
S5 Can’t Handle Fast Chargers
Problem: Actually, this is more of a question of curiosity rather than a call for help. So what exactly broke my phone? My battery ended up being completely dead and useless. I promptly bought a new battery. My phone works but … My charging port is now “f***** up” and it can’t handle high voltage from the charger (and it’s not the charger, I checked) and it could only be charged via laptop (low voltage). I was wondering if you guys could answer my question. I’ve been pretty careful with my cellphone and tried not to overcharge the battery so it would last longer. It just sucks that this occurred and I have to spend additional money for this. I’m just curious to see how this happened and how I can avoid this from happening again. Sorry to be a bother- I know you guys have this set-up for android fixes rather than questions of curiosity but it would be very appreciated if you guys can answer this!
Solution: It’s possible that the issue is not caused by the charging port itself as this is just an interface to connect the charging cable to the charging assembly of the phone. I suspect that the problem is caused by a faulty charging assembly. This is a daughter board separate from the main board of the phone which handles the charging process. Since this is an electronic component most of the issues that affect electronic devices can cause this component to become faulty. Some of the possible reasons include
- Sudden spike in current from the charger
- Extreme temperature
- Water damage
- Component failure
S5 Not Charging After Marshmallow Update
Problem: Since getting the Marshmallow update, My Anker chargers do not seem to be working properly. I am now, only since update, getting an error message that says “Please use the charger that came with the phone, for improved charging.” The phone will make a beeping noise approximately every minute. It is the same noise the phone makes when plugging in a charger. It seems like the phone charges 1%, beeps, then loses the percent. Verizon is blaming Samsung, and said that is probably something they included with the update. Help!!
Solution: Have you tried using other chargers just to check if the problem is caused by the Anker charger? You should also try to use a different charging cord as the cord you are using might be causing the problem. Before charging your phone you should clean the charging port using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw.
If the issue still remains then you should consider doing a factory reset. This deletes any old software data that could still be in the phone. This data is usually taken out during the update process however there are cases when it still remains in your phone. This causes a conflict with the new software version resulting in various issues. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
S5 Battery Won’t Hold Charge
Problem: After getting the screen replaced for the second time, the battery dies quickly and won’t hold a charge. The OS will not update because there is an issue with 3rd party something. I completed a factory reset and the issues are still persisting.
Solution: Assuming that nothing went wrong during the screen replacement then the problem could be caused by a faulty battery. Try replacing this battery with a new one then check if the issue still occurs.
