Troubleshooting Galaxy S10e with “My Files has stopped” error

My Files is a pre-installed and core application and therefore embedded in the firmware. When it crashes, it could be just an issue with the app itself or a sign of a firmware problem. So, you have to be thorough in troubleshooting your phone with this kind of problem. With all that being said, here are the things you need to do if your Galaxy S10e keeps showing the “My Files has stopped” error.

First solution: Perform the Forced Restart

A forced restart must be the first thing you have to do especially if it’s the first time that you encountered this problem. It is because this problem could be just a result of a minor firmware issue or a glitch. That’s always been the case with similar issues we’ve encountered in the past. So, to rule this possibility out, follow these steps to force restart your Galaxy S10e…

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10e logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has successfully rebooted, open My Files or try to attach any file in your messages to see if the error “My Files has stopped” still shows up. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Make sure it’s not caused by third-party apps

Core applications are also being used by third-party apps so it’s always possible that those apps may cause them to crash from time to time. The next thing you have to do is restart your phone in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps. This way, you would know if one of the downloaded applications is causing the problem. Here’s how you do that:

  1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
  4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

If the problem is fixed in safe mode and you can actually use My Files without being greeted by the error, then it means there’s a third-party app that’s causing the problem. Follow these steps to probe further:

  1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
  2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the “Settings has stopped” error started.
  3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  5. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  6. Find and tap suspected app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

On the other hand, if the problem continues to show even in safe mode, then move on to the next solution to troubleshoot the firmware.

This procedure have been able to fix similar problems with some of the owners of this device so it’s worth doing. What it does is actually very simple; it deletes and replaces the old system cache with a new one. 1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10e logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy S10e will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
