How to troubleshoot Galaxy Note 9 with Gallery has stopped error

The Gallery is a pre-installed app and it works together with camera so users have a better experience when it comes to taking and viewing pictures and videos. That said, it’s possible that the problem could also be caused by the camera or it could just be an issue with the app itself. The following procedures will help you determine what the problem really is and how to deal with it…

First solution: Open Gallery in Safe Mode

There are times when third-party applications will cause pre-installed apps to crash. In the case of the Gallery, it’s also being used by many applications especially Facebook, Instagram and other apps that offer picture and video sharing services.

We need to find out if the crash is caused by a third party or not that’s why you need to run your device in safe mode. By doing this, you’re temporarily disabling all downloaded apps and services associated with them. If the problem doesn’t occur while in this mode, then it means that a third-party app is causing Gallery to crash. You just need to find out which of the app causes the problem and get rid of it and the problem will be solved.

Here’s how to run your Galaxy Note 9 in Safe Mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

If there’s a need to uninstall an app that might be causing the problem, then here’s how you do it on the Note 9:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list.
  4. To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL > OK.

If Gallery, however, still crashes while in safe mode, it might be just an issue with the app or the camera Move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Reset Gallery and Camera

To reset an app means to clear its cache and data so it will be brought back to its default settings and configuration. If the problem is with the app only, then this procedure is more than enough to fix it. Reset both Gallery and Camera as both are connected to each other…

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
  4. Find and tap Gallery (for the next round choose Camera)
  5. Tap Storage > CLEAR CACHE > CLEAR DATA > DELETE.

If the problem continues to bug you after doing this, then try the next solution.

Third solution: Reset All Settings

This procedure is also among the most effective solutions which you can do anytime to refresh your phone and give it a fresh start. It has the effects of a reset but none of your files and data will not be deleted. In other words, it’s safe for your personal files yet very effective in fixing issues. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset settings.
  3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  6. The device will restart to perform the reset of settings.

After this, open Gallery to know if it still crashes or not. If it still does, then the next step will take care of it.

Fourth solution: Master Reset

Any app-related issues can be fixed by a reset provided the firmware hasn’t been modified in any way. While we know that this procedure is very effective, we are often hesitant to suggest this because you may lose some important files. But after exhausting all other possible solutions and the problem continues, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone. However, before you do that, make sure to backup your files as you may lose some of your files. After the backup, follow these steps to reset your Note 9…

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
