Note 5 Screen Is Black After Drop

Problem: Okay, so I did drop my phone, which had two previous cracks in the screen, but they weren’t bad. Never had a problem with them. Well, I dropped it yesterday as I was sitting down, the phone didn’t fall far at all, but the crack spread mostly to the top right corner. Now, my screen is black, but I can still charge it, get messages, phone calls, and I can hear it when I open the lock screen. A friend said it may be my LED screen, but I’m hoping there’s a reset or something that can be done first. I tried the advice already on the website concerning black screens with the Samsung Galaxy s5, but so far no luck. I also selected the Note 5 in the device slot, simply because I didn’t see the s5, just to avoid confusion.

Related Problem: I dropped my phone this evening and I caught it with my foot, which it’s been dropped before and been fine but this time, I can’t get the screen to come on, except a flicker of white on the left side of the screen. Am I screwed or can I save it? I am probably going to have to go by Verizon and see if they can help. Pretty side I am so dependant on my phone. Any help you can give would be appreciated

Solution: While it is very likely that the display has been damaged by the drop there is still one troubleshooting step that you should consider performing which allows you to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. You will need to start the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then you should perform a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. In case the screen does not work even in recovery mode then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked. It’s very likely that the whole display assembly will have to be replaced to fix this problem.

Note 5 Not Getting Software Update

Problem: I was given a note 5 by a friend. The current android version is 6.0.1 Whenever I try to check for updates it says this version has been downloaded online please try updating using pc or visit a Samsung store. I don’t know what to do. please help

Solution: The latest software version of this phone is Android Nougat. If your phone is not running on Nougat then there might be some reason why it is not getting the update. These reasons include the following.

  • The phone has been rooted.
  • The phone is running on a custom software.
  • If the phone has been unlocked then it should be running on its original network in order for it to access the update servers.

In case your phone is clear of the above issues then what you should do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try updating your phone using Smart Switch.

One other way to update your phone is to manually flash the updated firmware file. You can download this file from the Sammobile website which is also where you can get the instructions on how to flash your phone.

Note 5 Battery Discharges Quickly

Problem: For the past few days my phone’s battery has been acting up and charging slowly. I bought a brand new charger and it still loses its charge instead of charging. The only way it charges is when it’s powered off, and even then it loses its charge quickly

Solution: This problem might already be caused by a faulty battery. What you will want to do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have the battery replaced.
