Note 4 No Sound

Problem: Hi,  My Galaxy note 4 went for a brief swim 3 days ago. I turned it off, stripped it and put it in a bag of rice. This seems to have worked in as much as I can now turn the phone on and access all the apps etc. However, I have absolutely no sounds.. I’ve checked the levels in settings and put them all to Max. I can get sound if I use headphones but that’s it. It’s worth noting that before I turned it off after its swim it was making an audible hissing/crackling sound. Have I totaled the phone or is there a fix?

Solution: There’s a possibility that the speaker might have been damaged when the phone got wet. If this is the case then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked. You should however perform a factory reset first before bringing the phone to a service center to eliminate the possibility of this being caused by a glitch in the phone software. Make sure to backup your phone data first before doing the reset.

Note 4 No Sound On Speaker Or Earpiece

Problem: Phone powers on but no output from loud speaker or ear speaker.  Mic also not working.  Voice recorder gives “recording error” when RECORD is pushed.  Music gives playback error when trying to play an MP3.  No audio on calls either.

Solution: For this particular issue the best thing to do first is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset has been completed do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this could already be caused by a component inside the phone that is failing to work. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

Note 4 No Notification Tones

Problem: No ring tone (or sound on ringtone options) no vibration, no message sound. I get sound from music, ABC radio and iview etc. I have removed the battery & left it out for at least 10 seconds (three times) The ringtone is turned up to maximum as is the  message tone. I’d be very grateful for any advice as I currently miss all calls. Warm regards

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this case is to check on the phone sound settings.

  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Under ‘Sound and display’, tap Sounds and notifications.
  • Tap Ringtones.
  • Tap the desired ringtone.
  • Tap OK.

Next, make sure that the sound settings are set to max. This includes ringtone, notifications, system, and media sound.

You should also go to the notification settings of your phone. If you see an all apps with a switch then make sure that it is enabled.

If the problem still remains then perform the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start your phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue still occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

Note 4 Sound Degrades After One Minute Of Playback

Problem: I have a Galaxy Note 4 which when I use either video or voice recorder i have sound issues.  When I start playback, the sound is great, full and in stereo.  About 1 minute into playback the sound drops to a hollow, mono sound and doesn’t recover.

Solution: The first thing you should do in this case is to check if the problem is caused by the file recorded or by your phone. Copy the file to your computer then play it on the computer. There are two things that can happen.

  • If the sound issue does not occur then the problem is caused by an issue with the phone.
  • If the sound issue occurs then the problem is caused during the recording of the file.

Here’s what you need to do for the first condition. Check if the issue occurs after performing each step below then move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Clear the cache and data of the music player and video player app.
  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Here’s what you need to do for the second condition. Check if the issue occurs after performing each step below then move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Clean the microphone port of your phone.
  • When doing the recording make sure that you don’t block the microphone port.
  • Clear the cache and data of the voice recorder and video recorder app.
  • Try doing a recording in Safe Mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then this could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Sound Cuts Off

Problem: First of all I want to thank you for your free service. This is great. Second, I have a Samsung galaxy note 4 and it worked great until a couple of weeks ago I was watching a show on YouTube and the sound just cut off after probably 2 minutes. I just kept turning the phone on and off to check if the problem keep happening and it did. Sadly I think it might be like a software problem. But I would like to see if you have any idea of what it could be and how to fix it. Thank you

Solution: Does this problem only occur when you are using the YouTube app? If it does then you should try clearing the cache and data of the app first then check if the issue still occurs. You should also make sure that your phone is connected to a fast and reliable  Internet connection to eliminate the possibility of this being a connection related problem.

If the issue still persist the follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Check if the issue still occurs after performing a step then move to the next one if it does.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Sound Is Low During Calls

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 when I place a call or receive a call I can barely hear the sound coming out of my front speaker . I don’t know what is causing it. The speaker works but the sound is very low.

Solution: If the call volume is too low that you can hardly hear the other party during calls the first thing that you need to check is the volume settings. Make sure that all the sound settings are set to maximum. If the issue persists then do the following steps listed below.

  • Inspect the front earpiece of the phone. If you find any dirt or debris then this could affect the sound quality of your device. Clean this out using a can of compressed air or by using a toothpick.
  • If your phone has a case installed then try removing this as this could affect the call quality.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Does the issue also occur in this mode? If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the issue still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have the front speaker checked.

Note 4 Headphone Port Not Working Properly

Problem: My headphone port not working correctly. Earlier wasn’t working at all. Cleaned the port with cotton swab this evening. Now will only play on one side of headphones. Please help.

Related Problem: in my Samsung galaxy note 4 during calls it was very low volume I can’t understand what they are speaking. nowadays only this problem occurs please solve it

Solution: Try using a different pair of headphones to check if it is the current headphone that’s causing the problem. If the issue persists then try checking if it occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the issue occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest that you try doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then the audio port of the phone might be damaged. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.
