You may already know some of the things I mentioned here but I think it would still be necessary to publish posts like this for the benefit of users who are still learning a thing or two about their new phone.

How To Wipe Cache Partition

You may be able to clear the cache of every app installed on your device but if you have hundred of those, it will surely take time. There’s a faster way to do so–wiping the partition where all caches are stored. However, you will need to boot the phone in Recovery Mode first to access the command that will wipe and format the partition. Here’s how…

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power
3. When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home
4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home
5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
6. Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
7. With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

Master Reset Via Recovery Mode

There are three methods you can use to reset your phone to its factory defaults. This method will delete all data and settings in your phone and reformat the data partition. So, you can rest assured all possible corrupt data will be deleted. However, you will need to boot the phone in recovery mode to do this.

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power
3. When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home
4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home
5. Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

Factory Reset Via Settings Menu

This method will delete all apps and reset all settings to factory defaults. It’s the same as entering the code *2767*3855# in the phone dialer. Factory reset is an effective way to fix all app- and firmware-related issues. This is how you do it…

1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps
2. Choose Settings, and tap General
3. Tap Backup and reset and choose Factory data reset.
4. At the bottom of the screen, touch the button Reset device.
5. Choose Erase everything. Once all data and settings on the Note 3 have been deleted, the phone will reset and then reboot.

How To Boot In Safe Mode

Booting the Note 3 in safe mode will temporarily disable all third-party or downloaded apps leaving pre-installed ones and core services running. This procedure is very helpful when you are troubleshooting app-related issues. By following the steps below, you can immediately know if the cause of the problem is a third-party or not.

1. Turn the device off.
2. Press and hold the Power
3. When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
4. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
5. ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

Another way to do this is to boot the phone normally and keep on tapping the Menu key until the phone reaches the Home screen and displays “Safe Mode” at the bottom left corner.

How To Perform Soft Reset

Soft Reset is an effective way to fix minor hardware and software glitches. It is very easy to do and many would think it’s absurd to do it but many have actually been helped with this method. Here’s how you do it:

1. Remove the back cover and pull the battery out.
2. Without a battery, press and hold the Power key for a minute.
3. After 1 minute has elapsed, place the battery back in and secure it with the back cover.
4. Now turn the phone on.

How To Clear Cache

When the app is run the first time, Android will store files in the cache partition specific for that app only so that the next time the user will use it, it will be loaded faster. Caches, however, can easily be corrupted and when it happens, the app will not function properly or affect the operation of other apps that are linked to it. Thus, the user needs to clear the cache so that Android will be forced to cache newer sets of data or files. Here’s how to clear an app’s cache on Galaxy Note 3:

1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps
2. Choose Settings, and tap General
3. Scroll down to Device manager section and tap Application manager.
4. Scroll to the right to display contents of ALL
5. Scroll down to find the app and tap on it.
6. Now tap the Clear Cache

How To Delete Data

If Android stores files in the cache partition during the first use, it will store files that contain user’s settings and preferences in the data partition. When an app crashes or goes rogue, there is always a possibility that some settings were messed up. Deleting the data will bring the app back to its default settings. Almost all app-related problems can be fixed with this procedure.

1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps
2. Choose Settings, and tap General
3. Scroll down to Device manager section and tap Application manager.
4. Scroll to the right to display contents of ALL
5. Scroll down to find the app and tap on it.
6. Now tap the Clear Data

How To Disable Auto Brightness / Adjust Brightness

Some users don’t want to see the screen of their phone change the level of brightness. The thing is, automatic brightness is enabled by default. This tutorial is a simple guide on how to turn it off:

1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu
2. Choose Settings and tap Device.
3. Touch Display and Brightness.
4. Unmark the checkbox beside Automatic brightness.
5. To adjust screen brightness, touch and slide the bar to the left or to the right.

You can also adjust the brightness level from within the Notification Panel. Swipe your finger from the top of the screen to the bottom; the display brightness adjustment bar is shown just below the Quick Panel shortcuts.

How To Switch Networks

Depending on the model of the phone, Note 3 is set to use the fastest network that is compatible with it. For example, LTE variants are, by default, set to connect to LTE networks. But of course, there comes a time when you need to change or switch networks and this is how you do it:

1. From the Home screen, tap Apps
2. Tap the Settings
3. Touch More networks and Mobile networks.
4. Touch Network mode and choose the network you want to connect to.

How To Calibrate The Battery

Battery is one of the components that will deteriorate faster than others. It is inevitable that sometimes you will encounter battery-related issues. Just like other hardware components in a phone, the battery may also glitch and when it does, calibrating it will fix the problem. Here’s how…

1. Charge the phone while it’s on and wait until it reaches 100%, then disconnect the charging cable.
2. Turn the phone off and connect the charging cable again. Wait until it reaches 100%.
3. Turn the phone on and set it to highest brightness level and disable screen time out.
4. Plug the charger again and wait until it reaches 100% again.
5. Now, leave the phone with its screen on until it reaches 0% and turns off.
6. This procedure will take several hours but once completed, charge the battery again and it should work fine after that.
