J5 Touchscreen Not Responding

Problem: Sporadically my phone’s touchscreen will act up. Either it won’t respond to touch, or it will act as if in touching somewhere different, or it will “think” i touched somewhere when i never touched the screen at all. I am usually able to get it working again if i turn the screen off, then slap it against my leg or something. When it is messing up, it resembles symptoms of a drop of water on the screen, i have tried soft resets, but haven’t done the factory reset yet, though i believe it to be a hardware issue, since i have to whack it to restore it to proper. All buttons work no matter what, just the touch screen issues.

Solution: Does your phone have a screen protector installed? If it does then sometimes this can cause the touchscreen to act up. Try removing the screen protector if your phone has one installed.

Another possible factor that can cause this problem is a software glitch. To check if this is the case you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs.

If the problem persists then this is most likely caused by an issue with some component of the phone. The best thing to do right now is to bring this to a service center and have it checked.

J5 Switches Off At 40% Battery Life

Problem: My phone at first would sometimes freeze, deplete its battery fast(I allow only about 6 apps to run in the background) and switch off while on 40% battery power and go flat instantly. Upon checking, I discovered that I had a swollen battery. Changed the battery days ago and it still switches off around 40 or 30%. I noticed also that when I switch my data connection off for the night, I find it on the next morning with some activity registered.

Solution: What you will want to do right now is to check if a software glitch is causing this problem. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then it’s possible that this could be caused by a faulty power IC. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

J5 Screen Only Partly Light Up

Problem: Hi there.  My husband had Samsung J5 in pocket of overalls, must have put pressure on it when working in a ceiling and now screen only partly lights up at the top and is not overly clear.  Have tried soft reset but made no difference.  Also tried putting into recovery mode and have different lighting at top but very hard to read what it says.  Pixelated etc. I have photo of the screen if you require it. It would be fantastic if we could use the phone again, as his previous J5, exactly the same thing happened but approximately 3-4 months after he dropped it.  It had a very fine crack in screen (couldn’t actually feel it with fingernail) and worked fine for several months before resulting in same screen issue.  Both have been in a shockproof case, but identical screen problem. Many thanks and look forward to suggestions.

Solution: Since the issue also occurs when you start the phone in recovery mode then this could mean that the display has been physically damaged. You can still try to perform a factory reset to check if a software glitch is causing the problem. Just make sure that you have made a backup of your phone data before doing the reset. In case the problem still occurs after doing a factory reset then you need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J5 Not Detecting microSD Card

Problem: The phone doesn’t seem to want to acknowledge the 16gb sd card. Tried formatting card and has not worked. There’s only 5 photos on the phone and not many apps not very large ones but it still says no storage space can send photos of it.

Solution: Try inserting a different microSD card on your phone then check if it is being read. If not then check if this card is being read by another device. If the card can be read by another device then the problem could be with the phone itself. You should have the microSD card slot of the phone checked at a service center as this slot could be faulty.

J5 Apps Not Opening

Problem: Last night I started having an issue with my gallery not opening and I learned this morning that my Google play will not open either. I do not get an error message. It just flashes open and then automatically backs out to my home screen. I have tried updating the software on my phone. Turning my phone off and back on. RestartING my phone. Tried turning airplane mode on and off. Been in both mobile and wi-fi connections. Tried clearing data and cache. Made sure the apps had permission on calendar and location. This is the first I have encountered this issue. I would much rather not have to wipe all my data and pictures with a factory reset if it can be avoided. I also noticed this morning this hat my Facebook app is trying to update but can not even start before it gets closed out as well.

Solution: For this particular problem you should try wiping the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. If this doesn’t work then you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

J5 Apps Keep On Refreshing

Problem: Whilst using apps like facebook tumblr and google search the phone keeps refreshing the app returning me to the top of the page. Also when i turn the screen off the screen turns back on itself to the lock screen then turns off again after 10 seconds or so then immediately does it again repeatedly. Tried soft reset and clearing off recent apps doesn’t stop this happening. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Solution: The best thing to do in this case is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. If your phone has a microSD card installed then remove it as well. Try to check if the problem still occurs. If the issue persists then you need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J5 Unable To Charge

Problem: I am facing issue while I am trying to charge my phone Samsung J5. It’s giving me error “Unable to charge, make sure you are using a Samsung compatible battery” though I am using the same. I have bought this phone last June, though it’s not under warranty now.

Solution: What you will want to do right now is to first clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air as sometimes dirt or debris stuck in this port can cause this problem. You should also try using a different charging cord and wall charger to charge your phone to eliminate any charger issues.

If the problem still occurs then try getting a new battery.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then you need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J5 Failed to Play Video Error

Problem: I have some video (mp4) stored on a SanDisk Ultra Plus 32GB.  When trying to play some of the video stops after and i get the error message Failed to play video An unknown error occurred.  I tried transferring the files to my iMAc but the transfer gets so far then fails.  I stopped the offending video in the J5’s video player and fast forwarded past the crash point and the video plays on normally.  Is this bad blocks and how can I transfer the files to the Mac and maybe edit round the glitch?

Solution: It’s very likely that the video file is corrupt or a portion of the file is saved in a corrupt sector of the microSD card. You can try downloading another video player app on your phone then check if it is able to completely playback the video file. If not then you can try to email the file to yourself then open the attachment using your iMac. This is only possible if the filesize of the video does not exceed the attachment limit size of the email you are using. You can also try to sync the video file to the cloud then download it to your iMac.
