J3 Not Working After Software Update

Problem: Switched my Samsung J3 from Verizon to Total Wireless. The switch was successful and made a test call to verify. Immediately I received a notification to update software so I accepted. The phone never worked again. I tried soft reset, restart in safety mode, clearing cache, factory reset, etc. What happens every time is the Samsung logo comes up, then a green Droid guy says “installing” then he crashes on his back with a red exclamation point and then I’m taken back to recovery mode. Did Verizon program a boot-up bug for when I switched their phone to another provider?

Solution: Your phone software should not be having any issues when you switch your phone from one carrier to another. What’s happening right now is that there might be a glitch that occurred when the update process completed. To troubleshoot this problem you should start the phone in recovery mode then perform a wipe cache partition of the device followed by a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider flashing the phone with its stock firmware file using Odin. You can get the firmware file from the Sammobile website which is also where you can get the instructions on how to flash your phone.

J3 Stuck In Samsung Screen With Blue Flashing Lights

Problem: My daughter’s phone was switched and working fine but then went to to screen with Samsung on and blue flashing lights. Cannot switch off or do anything with it. I have taken out battery but didn’t make any difference Samsung j3 2016. Not sure what android version she said it has updated in last few weeks

Solution: This is similar to the issue which we have addressed above. Since the phone has a removable battery try removing this first as well as the microSD card (if you have one installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinstall just the battery then turn on the phone. If the issue persists then you should start the phone in recovery mode then perform both steps listed below.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone.
  • Perform a factory reset. Take note that your phone data will be erased when you do this.

If the issue persists then consider flashing the phone with its updated firmware file using Odin . You can get the file from the Sammobile website which is also where you can get the instructions on how to flash your phone.

J3 Unfortunately TouchWiz Home Has Stopped Working

Problem: I have a galaxy j3 and I’ve followed the directions to clear the cache for the touchwiz home problems and I’m still having no luck. The “unfortunately touchwiz home has stopped” message comes up every time I try to open my widgets. I hold the home screen, the widgets icon pops up and when I click it to open it, the message pops up and freezes my phone. I’m stumped.

Solution: For this particular issue you should try to clear the cache and data of the TouchWiz app first from the application manager. Try checking if the issue still occurs after performing this step. If it does then proceed with the additional steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then an app you downloaded might be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

J3 Not Turning On Unless Plugged To Charger

Problem: I’ve been using phone without problems, started to lose power quicker than normal and put phone on charge overnight whilst turned off. Unplugged charger as it was at 100% and switched phone on. Galaxy screen appeared followed by Samsung logo then phone shut down. Phone will not stay on beyond Samsung logo unless power cable is connected. With cable connected the phone stays on until showing main screen then shuts down. Have tried everything suggested with no success.

Solution: I recommend that you perform a factory reset first from the recovery mode. Take note that this will erase your phone data. If the issue still persists after the reset then this problem could be caused by a faulty battery. Try getting a new battery then check if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J3 Freezes When Wi-Fi Is Used

Problem: After working fine for , the phone started having connection problems. The moment it first occurred it was running an update of an app using Wifi. I disrupted the update by walking outside of the Wifi range, and from that point on the phone has connection problems every time I connect to internet, whether through Wifi or mobile data. It does connect, but as soon as any activity starts the phone slows down quickly to the point where it’s unusable. Basically I have about half a minute to go offline again before it doesn’t respond anymore, or extremely slow (i.e. after some minutes of trying to swipe the menu down I may get lucky and be able to switch the connection off and it immediately starts working properly again). I’ve done a factory reset, after which it seemed to work again for a few hours. I re-installed some apps (WhatsApp, Outlook, Sleep Cycle and CityMaps2Go), which had all been installed for a long time and never gave any problem. Then the exact same thing happened. Right now my internet usage is limited to turning on Wifi, receiving WhatsApp messages (only text, pictures it doesn’t download), turning Wifi off again, reply, and turn on and off again to send. Employees at my provider’s (KPN) store simply concluded: hardware problem – buy new phone. Would you agree with that assessment, and if indeed a hardware problem, is that fixable through replacement of any part? Can’t wait to hear your take on the matter! In any case your services/site is very much appreciated – great work!

Solution: Since the issue disappears after performing a factory reset yet appears again after you installed some apps then you should try to check if it is an app you downloaded that is causing the problem. Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. In case the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then this is most likely a hardware related issue already possibly caused by a faulty internal component. You should have this checked at a service center if this is the case.

J3 Will Not Charge

Problem: sometimes my phone has issues charging. we have tried different cords, plugs, cleaning the port, and a new battery. when the issue arises usually the phone will stop charging completely until it dies and is left alone. the only solution we have is factory resetting the phone. this usually fixes the problem temporarily, but inevitably the problem shows up again. which sucks since that requires yet another factory reset.

Solution: It already looks like this issue is caused by a faulty power IC. The best thing you can do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J3 Not Charging Or Turning On

Problem: My phone’s battery got low and I charged the phone. suddenly the phone went off and didn’t show that it was charging and after a minute or so, it said “updating software, do not switch off.” I removed the phone’s cover when I was charging the phone and when I picked it up, the battery fell out and I put it back and tried to continue charging but it didn’t charge or switch on since then.

Solution: What you should do first in this case is to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air then charge the device for at least 20 minutes. If the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. If you still get nor response then try using a new battery on your phone.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
