Hello. How are you doing guys? I found your website while browsing the web looking for a solution to a problem with my new Galaxy J3. The thing is there is a message that keeps showing up whenever I try to read my emails it says “Unfortunately, Email has stopped.” So, what wrong with my phone? Can this be fixed? Thanks.

Now, let’s move on to our troubleshooting procedure…

Step 1: Immediately isolate the problem by booting the phone in safe mode

Let’s not waste our time here. It’s imperative that we know immediately if the problem is caused by one or some of the third-party apps you may have installed on your device. So, boot your phone up in safe mode and see if the error still shows up.

  1. Power off your Galaxy J3. Press and hold the Power key, tap Power off and then touch POWER OFF to confirm.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
  3. When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.

If it still shows up, then it might be a problem with the app or the firmware itself, however, if it it’s fixed then you just have to find the app that’s causing the problem and then try to clear the cache and data first and then uninstall if the problem remains. You may have to uninstall more than one app to fix the problem.

Here’s how you reset an app on your J3…

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Applications.
  4. Tap Application manager
  5. Tap the suspected app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  8. Tap Clear cache.

To uninstall, follow the same steps but hit uninstall.

Step 2: Clear the cache and data of the Email app

Assuming the problem still occurs in safe mode, it’s now safe to assume that the problem is either with the app itself or the firmware. So the next thing you have to do is reset the Email app. This will delete all messages downloaded into your phone and you will have to setup your account after. Make sure you have the copy of the server settings and if you want to backup your messages then so do prior to these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Applications.
  4. Tap Application manager
  5. Tap the Email.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  8. Tap Clear cache.

After this, setup your account and try to see if the error still shows up and if so, move on to the next step.

Step 3: Try to delete the system caches as they may have been corrupted

After resetting the email app and the error still shows up, it’s time to go after the firmware as it might just be a minor issue. It could be that some of the caches got corrupted and affected the phone’s performance as well as the operations of other apps. In this step, try to delete the system caches by wiping the entire content of the cache partition. Here’s how…

  1. Power off your Galaxy J3. Press and hold the Power key, tap Power off and then touch POWER OFF to confirm.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the problem still shows up, the next step will surely fix it.

Step 4: Perform the Master Reset procedure on your phone

This error message is actually a minor problem. In fact, you can work around it by installing third-party email clients. This step will reset your device back to factory defaults and delete all your important files and data. So, if you don’t want to do this, I suggest you use other email apps but if you’re into making your phone work perfectly again, then backup your files and data and then follow these steps:

  1. Power off your Galaxy J3. Press and hold the Power key, tap Power off and then touch POWER OFF to confirm.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up button and then press and hold the Home key. While holding both, press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo appears on the screen, release all three keys. It may take a minute before the Android recovery screen appears.
  4. While on Android recovery screen, use the Volume Down key to highlight options, in this case, highlight the option ‘wipe data/factory reset.’
  5. Press the Power key to choose the highlighted option.
  6. Press  the Volume Down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ option is highlighted.
  7. Press the Power key to confirm the reset.
  8. Once the reset is complete, press the Power key to choose ‘Reboot system now.’
  9. The phone will restart a little longer than usual and the reset is finished.

I hope this helps.
