Samsung Galaxy A20 frozen on certain screen. Here’s how to fix it.

There are times when your Samsung Galaxy A20 is frozen on a certain screen and most of the time it’s because of an app. When an application stops working, you may be stuck on the screen that you’ve been using. There are also times when you’ll get stuck on a black screen wherein the phone may seem like it’s powered off but if you try calling, it still rings. For this, it’s probably an issue with the firmware and it’s fixable. 

In this post, I will help you in troubleshooting your Galaxy A20 that’s frozen on a certain screen regardless of whether it’s an app screen or a black screen. I will share with you the most effective solution we’ve been using in fixing problems like this in the past. What to do if your Galaxy A20 is frozen on a certain screen

A frozen phone is often a result of an app or system crash and as long as there are no signs of physical or liquid damage, you should be able to fix it by doing one or two procedures. That said, here’s what you should do: 

First solution: Force restart your phone

The most effective solution when it comes to frozen phones is the forced restart. It is because this issue isn’t really that serious even if sometimes it may seem like a serious issue with the firmware or hardware. This is how it’s done: 

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.

If you were able to make the device respond using the method, then the problem is fixed. If your Galaxy A20 got frozen on a certain screen, then for sure, this method will fix it. However, if your device got stuck on a black screen and still not responding after doing this, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Charge your phone and do the forced restart

If the screen is black, it is always possible that the battery was drained completely and just before the phone turned off, the firmware may have crashed. In this case, the phone will not respond, no matter how many times or how long you press the power key. It won’t also respond even if you connect the charger. But here’s what you can do about it: 

1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet. 
2. Using the original cable, connect the phone to its charger. 
3. Regardless of whether the phone shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes. 
4. After which and while the phone is still connected to the charger, press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
5. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
6. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.

If you were able to make your phone respond by any of the procedures here but the problem occurs from time to time, then the best thing you can do is a reset. Prior to that, make sure you create a copy of your important files and data as they will be deleted. Then remove your google and samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out. If ready, follow these steps to reset your phone: 

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
3. When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
