Huawei Mate 30 Pro Now Official with Waterfall Display and No Google Apps

Huawei has been quite busy in the mobile industry, particularly since Google cut off Android licenses for the company owing to the trade ban imposed by the U.S. government on a handful of Chinese entities. Well, Huawei has just unveiled its latest flagship Android smartphone, known as the Mate 30 Pro, and despite packing high-end hardware, it is missing a few key elements like Google apps as well as the Play Store. The handset was unveiled at a dedicated event in Munich, Germany.

Huawei has previously mentioned that this can be downloaded from other sources or app hubs, although it raises significant security concerns for the customers. But if we’re talking about hardware credentials alone, the Mate 30 Pro is a juggernaut in every sense of the word.

The phone is packing a 6.53-inch Flex OLED FHD+ (2400 x 1176) “Waterfall” display which is accompanied by virtual volume and power buttons. As you can see from the images, the phone uses a notch on the front panel which houses a 32MP selfie camera, a gesture sensor, a dedicated 3D depth sensor, along with the standard suite of ambient light and proximity sensors.

The phone will be available in 4G and 5G models, using the recently unveiled Kirin 990 octa-core processor. The phone also packs a rear triple camera consisting of a 40MP primary camera, a 40MP ultrawide sensor and an 8MP telephoto sensor. Further, the phone packs 8GB of RAM, 256GB of expandable storage, and a 4,500 mAh battery with support for 40W wired fast charging and 27W wireless fast charging. The Mate 30 Pro comes with a Screen Sound Technology feature which allows the device to output sound through vibrations on the display. There’s an in-display fingerprint scanner on board as well.

The Mate 10 Pro runs Android 10 by default, but without the aforementioned Google apps. Huawei has been relatively quiet about the phone’s release date in the markets, but we should see it reach Asian markets over the coming months.
