How to unfreeze a frozen Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro (easy steps)

There are time when a freezing issue will leave the phone unresponsive and there are also cases wherein the device freezes only for a couple of seconds. The former is, obviously, more complicated than the latter and that’s what I want to tackle here. I will share with you the solutions that we’ve always been using to address this problem and make your device respond again.

I will share with you the solution to this problem with an assumption that the firmware in your hasn’t been modified in anyway because if it is, then the problem can be fixed by simply flashing the stock firmware back. But if your device just stopped responding one way without any obvious reason, here’s what you should do about it.

First solution: Forced Reboot

If you’re familiar with battery pull we often do to phones with removable batteries, then this is the equivalent of that. Most of the freezing issues especially those that result to phones that won’t respond anymore are due to a firmware crash. It can be addressed by doing the Forced Reboot and it might be the only thing you need to do to make your Galaxy J7 Pro respond again. Here’s how you do that:

  • Press and hold the volume down and power keys together for 10 seconds or more.

If your phone boots up after doing this, then you can consider the problem as fixed at this point. After all, the main problem here is that your phone is not responding. However, if it won’t respond to this, try doing the same procedure a couple more times or you may try this:

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t let go of it.
  2. Then, press and hold the Power key while holding down the volume down button.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more.

It’s basically similar to the first one only that we’re making sure the power key is pressed and held after the volume down button because doing otherwise won’t give you the same result. If the phone is still not responding after this, then you should try the next solution.

Second solution: Charge your phone and do the forced reboot

It’s possible your device ran out of battery. The thing is that if the phone loses power all of the sudden, some of its hardware components and services may not be shutdown properly and that may lead to a system crash. We already know that if the firmware crashes, your phone no longer responds not add the empty battery to the equation and you will have a more serious issue. But you can fix that by doing this:

  1. Plug the charger to a working AC outlet.
  2. Using the original data/power cable, connect your phone to its charger.
  3. Regardless whether your J7 Pro shows the charging signs or not, leave it connected to its charger for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t let go of it.
  5. Then, press and hold the Power key while holding down the volume down button.
  6. Keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more.

After doing this and your phone is still frozen or unresponsive, try booting it up in recovery mode because even if it has a serious firmware issue, it may still be able to boot into the Android system recovery menu. If successful, you can then proceed with a master reset and here’s how you do that:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy J7 Pro.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If all else fails, then you should bring the device to the store or shop so that a technician can check it for you.
