How To Fix The Samsung Galaxy J6+ Black Screen Of Death Issue

When your phone screen does not display anything at all then you might already be experiencing the Black Screen of Death issue. This problem can  be caused by a faulty hardware component or a software glitch. You could still be getting notifications on your device when this issue occurs or the phone might not be totally working at all. The best way to troubleshoot this is to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to fix the problem.

Make sure the phone is fully charged

What you will want to do first in this case is to make sure that the battery has sufficient charge. This will eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by a drained battery.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air making sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in it.
  • Fully charge the phone with a charging cord and wall charger that have been tested to work on another device.
  • If the phone does not charge with a wall charger then try charging the device from a computer USB port.

Once the battery is fully charged check if the Samsung Galaxy J6+ Black Screen of Death issue still occurs.

Perform a soft reset

If the problem is caused by a minor software glitch then refreshing the phone software might just be the solution. You can perform this step by restarting the phone.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

Sometimes an app you downloaded from the Google Play Store can cause this problem. To check if this is the case you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode since only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
  • When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.

If the Samsung Galaxy J6+ Black Screen of Death issue does not occur in this mode the it is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Finding the particular app is going to require a trial and error method. You should first start the phone normally then uninstall an app. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs. Repeat this until the issue no longer occurs. The last app you uninstalled is most likely the culprit.

Wipe the cache partition

There are instances when a corrupted system cached data can cause this problem. It’s therefore a good idea to delete this data as the phone will just rebuild this data when it starts again.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will bring your phone back to its original factory condition. Take note that your phone data will be deleted in the process .

  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.
  • With no apps installed in the phone, try to check if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps doesn’t fix the Samsung Galaxy J6+ black screen of death issue then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already.
