How To Fix The LG Prime 2 Can’t Send Text Messages Issue

The LG Prime 2 is a budget Android smartphone model offered by AT&T and is suited for people who want a solid performing smartphone without any confusing features. It has a 5.45 inch HD+ display, a quad core Snapdragon processor, and a 3000 mAh battery for longer usage time. Although this is a solid performing device there are instances when certain issues can occur. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the LG Prime 2 can’t send text messages issue.

How To Fix The LG Prime 2 Can’t Send Text Messages Issue

Before you proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below you should make sure that the phone software is updated. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first. This will minimize the possibility of the problem being caused by an outdated software version.

Verify that your area has a good network signal

You might find yourself in an area that does not have any reception. If you are in this area then you won’t be able to make calls or send text messages. To verify if this is a coverage related issue you should check if your phone has a strong network signal. You should also check if other devices under the same network are also having the same problem in your immediate vicinity.

Perform a soft reset

There’s a possibility that the problem is  caused by temporary data stored in the phone that has become corrupted. If this is the culprit then you will need to refresh your phone software. This can be done by restarting the phone which should eliminate any corrupt temporary data in the device. This step will also reset the phone connection to the network which can help fix the problem.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Check your SIM card

This  problem can also be caused by an issue with the phone SIM card. If this is caused by a SIM card glitch then you can fix this by turning off the phone and removing the SIM card. Wait for a few minutes before reinserting the SIM card back then turn on the phone. Check if the issue still occurs.

You should also try using a different SIM card in your phone to eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by a defective SIM card.

Clear the cache and data of the messaging app

There are times when  the data stored in the messaging app can get corrupted and can cause this problem. To fix this you will have to clear the cache and data of the messaging app.

  • From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab > Apps & notifications.
  • Tap App info.
  • Tap the filter to select the following: All, Enabled, Disabled
  • Tap the desired app, then Storage.
  • Tap Clear cache or Clear Data then YES

Check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode

Sometimes this problem can be caused by an app you downloaded from the Google Play Store. To check if this is what’s causing the problem you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
  • In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
  • When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
  • After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.

If you are able to send and receive a text message in this mode then the problem could be  caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Finding the particular app is going to be a trial and error method. Uninstall one app then check if the issue still occurs. Repeat this until the issue no longer occurs. The last app you uninstalled is most likely what’s causing the problem.

Reset the network settings

There are instances when the problem is caused by a wrong network settings on your phone. To eliminate this possibility you should reset your phone network setting.

When you reset your phone network settings the following will apply:

  • Stored Wi-Fi networks will be deleted.
  • Stored tethered connections will be deleted.
  • Paired Bluetooth devices will be deleted.
  • Background data sync settings will be turned on.
  • Data restrictive settings in applications that were manually turned on/off by the customer will be reset to the default setting.
  • Network selection mode will be set to automatic.
  • Preferred mobile network type will be set to best.

You can do the reset by following the steps listed below:

  • From any home screen, swipe left to locate and tap Settings.
  • Select the General tab or scroll to and tap Reset.
  • Tap Network settings reset > RESET SETTINGS > Reset Settings.
  • A ‘Network settings have been reset’ message briefly flashes to indicate the reset is complete.

Wipe the cache partition

The temporary data stored in a dedicated partition of the phone can sometimes get corrupted. When this happens then issues can occur on the device. To make sure that this is not what’s causing the problem you will have to clear the cache partition of the phone.

  • From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  • Tap Storage > Internal storage.
  • Wait for menu options to finish calculating.
  • Tap Free up space.
  • Tap Temporary files & raw files.
  • Select the following options: Cached data, Clip tray temporary files, Raw files from camera
  • Tap Delete > DELETE.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step you can perform if the phone is still unable to send a text message is a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data so it’s best to backup the phone data before proceeding.

  • Back up data on the internal memory before performing a factory reset.
  • From the Home screen, Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  • Tap Restart & reset.
  • Tap Factory data reset.
  • If desired, tap the Erase SD card checkbox.
  • Tap RESET PHONE – Delete all – RESET

You can also perform the factory reset using the hardware keys.

  • Backup all data on the internal memory before performing a master reset.
  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
  • When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  • When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  • Press the Power button to reset the device
