Is the wifi on your Xiaomi Pocophone F1 slow? Learn how to deal with it by following the troubleshooting steps below.

How to fix slow wifi issue on Xiaomi Pocophone F1

Solving slow wifi issue can sometimes be complicated. Below are the troubleshooting steps that you can do to troubleshoot your device.

Check wifi speed

If wifi is slow on your Xiaomi Pocophone F1, this does not right away mean that the problem is the phone. There’s an equal chance that it’s a router problem so your first troubleshooting step is to verify whether or not the problem lies within the phone, or if the internet from your ISP is just slow.

First, check the internet speed on your Xiaomi Pocophone F1. You can do that by using apps like Speedtest developed by Ookla. Make sure to run at least 3 tests. If the results are way too low, that can mean you have a router or ISP issue.

To confirm, use another wireless device and run a similar speed test. Be sure that this device is connected to the wifi you’re having a problem with. If the speed test results are consistent with the previous ones, you don’t have a phone problem at all.

To fix the issue, you need to troubleshoot your router itself. Contact your Internet Service Provider or ISP for help.

Forced restart the device

At this time, you must have already established that it’s not a router or ISP issue. To begin your Xiaomi Pocophone F1 troubleshooting, you want to do a forced reboot. This simulates the effect of physically disconnecting the battery as you can’t remove the battery pack. All you need to do is to press and hold the Power key and Volume Down button for 15 seconds or more.

If your phone boots up, then problem solved but if not, try doing the same procedure a few more times. If it’s still unresponsive after that, then try this…

  1. Press and hold the volume down button first and don’t let go.
  2. Press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 15 seconds or more.

If it’s still not responding after doing this, then try the next procedure.

Restart your modem, router, and other networking devices

Even though it’s not a router or networking issue, we also recommend that you restart all network equipment you have to refresh the entire network. Simply unplug your modem, router, and all other equipment for 10 seconds. Afterwards, plug everything back in and check for wfii speed performance.

Disconnect from the network (forget network)

Disconnecting from a problem wifi network temporarily is one of the basic troubleshooting steps in this case. If you haven’t tried that, be sure to do so. Leave your phone disconnected from wifi for a few seconds and restart it. After, reconnect it and see what happens.

Clear cache partition

Android OS uses a special cache called system cache to load apps quickly as well as do other tasks efficiently. Sometimes, this cache may get corrupted or becomes outdated, which results to all sorts of bugs. To ensure that your phone has good system cache, you want to clear its cache partition once every few months. This is easy to do and won’t take a minute. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Power OFF your phone. This is important. You can’t boot to Recovery Mode if your phone is on when pressing the hardware button combinations below.
  2. Boot into the recovery mode with these steps:
    • Press both Volume Down and Power buttons and hold them together.
    • Once the boot menu or logo appears, release the buttons.
    • Now choose the Recovery mode and enter into it.
    • You should be entered into the recovery mode.
  3. Under the recovery mode, tap on Wipe Cache Partition.
  4. Perform this action by following the on-screen instructions.
  5. Once you are done, exit this mode.

Install system update

Some network issues can only be fixed by an update. Make sure to install any available update for Android or apps.

Troubleshoot your browser app

If you have slow connection speed issue only when using a web browser, your troubleshooting should focus on the app itself. One of the ways to fix a slow web browser is by clearing its cache. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap App info.
  4. Tap the appropriate app.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear cache. This option may not be available for some apps. If there’s no option for you to clear a browser cache, go ahead and clear its data instead.

Should nothing happens after wiping the app cache, you can then try to see if reverting that app’s settings to defaults will help. You can do that by clearing its data with the following:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap App info.
  4. Tap the appropriate app.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear data.

Alternatively, you can simply replace the web browser with a different one. For example, if there seems to be a problem with the stock Internet browser app, you can install other ones from the Play Store such as Google  Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

Turn off downloads or stop streaming

Active downloads can lead to wifi slow downs. Make sure that your phone is not downloading anything when you do your speed test. The same can be true when streaming HD videos.

Observe on Safe Mode

It’s possible that one of the downloaded apps may be hogging all the broadband speed in your phone for whatever reason. To see if that’s the case, you can restart to safe mode.

  1. Your device must be powered on.
  2. Press the power button on phone.
  3. When the power off, restart, airplane mode, wifi mode, etc. menu will be displayed, release the power button.
  4. Now, long press the power off word on screen.
  5. Keep pressing this word until the Android Safe Mode message is being displayed on your phone.
  6. Select to reboot into Android Safe Mode.
  7. When done, a dedicated Safe Mode watermark will be displayed on your smartphone
  8. Observe the phone and check for the problem.

If wifi connection speed improves on safe mode and appears to be working normally, you can bet a downloaded app is to blame. To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Xiaomi Pocophone F1 still has the same problem, repeat steps 1-4.

Factory reset

This is a drastic troubleshooting step but one that you must do if nothing works so far. Reverting your device’s software settings to defaults may be the only way to help you at this time. Be sure to create a backup of all your data ahead of time.

Once you’ve created a backup of your files, factory reset your device with these steps:

  1. Turn on the phone
  2. Please make sure battery capacity more than 50%
  3. Backup important data of the phone
  4. Open Settings app.
  5. Tap General Setting.
  6. Tap Backup and Reset.
  7. Tap Factory Data Reset.
  8. Tap Reset Device.
  9. Tap Delete all.
  10. The XIAOMI POCOPHONE F1 will do the hard reset or master format to factory default process.

Send the device in for repair

Majority of slow wifi connection issues are fixed by an end user. However, if nothing improves and the problem remains, even a factory reset, that means that there must be a deeper reason for it. There may be a hardware problem that we don’t know about, or a coding glitch that can’t be rectified may be the reason. As an end user, the most that you can do is factory reset so if that fails, it’s time that you send the phone in for repair or replacement.
