How To Fix Samsung Galaxy S9+ Sound Not Working

Problem: Ever since I got my Samsung Galaxy s9 plus it has had issues with the sound…I won’t let me control the sound with the eternal toggle button, won’t let me hear sound through external speakers and headphones and when it does it sounds so low that you would have to hold the phone next to your ear to hear it…I have performed full Factory Reset to no avail…I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling apps…nothing seems to help…Am I the only one experiencing these problems or has anyone else been subjected to these issues…please let me know if there is a work around or solution to this problem… thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.

From the way you described the problem this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component. There are however several troubleshooting steps that you can perform to check if the issue is caused by other factors.

Perform a soft reset

The first thing you will have to do in this case is to refresh the phone software. You can do this by doing a soft reset which is usually performed when a phone is unresponsive but is also recommended in this case.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Once the phone restarts check if the sound works properly.

Check the volume settings

The next step that you will need to do is to make sure that the volume setting of the phone is set to its maximum level and that the device is not muted.

  • From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  • Go to Settings then Sounds and vibration.
  • Tap Volume.
  • Adjust the following to their maximum level: Ringtone, Media, Notifications, System
  • You can also adjust the volume by pressing the Volume buttons on the left side of the phone.

Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode

An app you downloaded in your phone could be causing this problem. To check if this is the case you will need to start the phone in Safe Mode since only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the phone off.
  • Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  • When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

In case the issue does not occur in this mode then it’s likely that the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

The phone system cached data is used to speed up the access to your phone apps. Sometimes this data can get corrupted which results in issues occurring on the device. To check if a corrupted cached data is causing the problem you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset as it will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

In case the issue persists even after performing the troubleshooting steps listed above then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to have the phone repaired at a service center.
