S5 Keeps On Restarting

Problem: I have an unusual issue where my galaxy s5 restarts itself over and over. I tried several things such as checking the battery, booting into safe mode, and eventually a factory reset. What makes this unusual is that the problem seems to persist even during the factory reset which is keeping me from completing the system setup wizard. I am not sure what android version I had installed but it was likely the latest as of 8/21/15.

Solution: If your phone restarts even when doing a factory reset then there is a possibility that the problem may be hardware related. One possible cause is that the power button of your phone is acting on its own.  If this is the case then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

There’s also a possibility that your phone software has become corrupted. Since the problem occurs even during a factory reset you should consider reflashing your phone software. You will need a fresh copy of your phone firmware as well as a software called Odin installed in your computer. Take note that this is not a Samsung supported troubleshooting procedure. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular android forums online.

S5 Keeps Prompting To Restart

Problem: Phone keeps prompting restart.  Recently had to reset to factory default due to an app complication.  After doing so software update was prompted.  Now, every 25 minutes or so,  i receive the same message  (phone must restart in 29 seconds to complete installation with the option to restart or click later.  Over and over and over…  It won’t stop.  After just dealing with the hassle of factory reset is there another way to make this stop? It’s driving me crazy.  It does this while in safe mode as well.  And it makes no difference.  The malfunctioning system is the network system provider app.  The symbol for it is an animated green power button.  Whatever is happening is driving me crazy.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

Solution: This problem may just be caused by a glitch in the cached data. You can wipe the cache partition of your phone to resolve this issue.

If the issue still persists even after wiping the cache partition then you should consider doing a factory reset. Just make sure to back up your data before proceeding as this will be deleted in the process.

S5 Keeps On Restarting Not Detecting SIM Card

Problem: Good day the problem is, my device is automatically restarting and not detect the sim card. I have already reinstalled the software after one day I tried to insert sim card it not working. Then I put my SD card after that start the restarting problem. Then again I reinstalled the lollipop. The same problem again repeating.

Solution: The way I see it your phone has two separate issue. The first one is that it restarts on its own and the second one is that it is not detecting your SIM card.

Let’s troubleshoot the restarting issue first. You mentioned that your phone restarts with the microSD card installed. The card may be faulty and causing the problem. You should try getting a new one or simply take it out from your phone.

Another way to resolve this issue is to do a factory reset. Make sure to erase everything in your microSD card as well. Take note that you should back up your phone data before doing this procedure as it will be deleted in the process.

For the SIM card issue you should first test your SIM card in another phone. If the SIM cannot be detected in another device then you should replace it with a new one.

If the issue does not occur in the other device then insert the SIM in your phone again. Make sure that it is inserted properly and that it doesn’t move around in the SIM tray. Turn on your phone then check if the issue still occurs.

S5 Restarts When Connected to MHL Cable

Problem: I connect my phone with mhl cable and my phone will just turn off and restart its self every time called tmobile told me to clear cache and reboot did not help. My wife’s phone work but she didn’t update her phones software like I did. Thank you for your help.

Solution: This issue may be caused by the MHL cable you are using. I suspect that your phone turns off because it gets grounded when you connect the MHL cable. Do you have another cable which you could test? If you have then try to test it and see if the same problem occurs.

If you don’t have another cable lying around then you should check the MHL port of your phone. See if there are any signs of damage, dirt or lint. If you spot any damage then you will need to send your phone to an authorized service center for checking. If you spot and dirt or lint then use a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol to clean the port.

One last thing that I would also recommend is for you to back up your phone data and do a factory reset. This allows you to eliminate any software related problems that may be causing the problem.

S5 Restarts Constantly At Home

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy S5 constantly restarts on its own but only when I am at home. It doesn’t do this at all if I am at work or anywhere else. What’s going on?

Solution: This is definitely a peculiar case as your phone seems to be choosing the location where it restarts. You should start the troubleshooting by checking if certain apps, especially location based apps, are causing this issue. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while the apps that you install are disabled. If the problem does not occur when your phone is in Safe Mode then it’s very likely that an app is causing this. Find out what the app is and uninstall it.

If however the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest you back up your phone data and do a factory reset.
