Note 4 Connected To Wi-Fi But No Internet
Problem: The wife and I both have note 4’s our daughter has an s5. I turn on our wifi when in the house and it’ll work for a little while and it’ll show my wifi data working but it’s not and my wife and daughter do not have any problems with their wifi connections. And this past month my shared data is over 26 gigs which is way too much.
Solution: Since the phones of your wife and daughter can connect to your Wi-Fi connection without any issues at all then the problem may be with your phone.
The first thing you will need to do to resolve this issues is to restart your phone. One your phone has booted up turn on the Wi-Fi switch then forget your home network. Search for the network again and connect to it. You may have to enter the network password again.
If you are still not able to go online then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power and Home key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key.
- Continue holding the Volume Up key until the Android System Recovery menu displays and then release. This step may take several seconds.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
If you still can’t get online after this then try to remember the last app you installed in your phone prior to this issue occurring. That app may be causing this problem. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode.
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume down key.
- Release the Power key when the Samsung logo appears but continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
Try connecting to the Internet in this mode. If you can go online then an app may be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Note 4 Mobile Hotspot Not Working
Problem: I purchased the note 4, after having problems with the note 3 not being able to use hotspot at my mountain house. The 3G 4G signal is there and others have no problem with it and normally I do not have a problem though it is slow, after I installed a cell antenna to improve signal strength any the house. The phone says around – 98 dB. I live on a hill that blocks good reception and when I go up the hill my tablet connect to the hotspot on my phone immediately. But even though in my house, it says the signal is strong, neither my laptop nor my tablet will connect to it. I can connect using USB and it works OK. On the laptop and tablet it says Wi-Fi not in range. It makes me crazy, as others can put on their hotspot and have it work fine. And they too were on Verizon. Any help would be appreciated!
Solution: This is definitely a unique issue as your phone hotspot works when outside of your house which indicates that it may be a signal relate issue. However, it also works inside of your house if the device is connected using USB.
I suggest you try to wipe the cache partition of your phone first then check if this resolves the problem.
If you still can’t connect to the hotspot wirelessly then you should back up your phone data and perform a factory reset.
- Turn off the phone. If the phone will not turn off, remove and re-insert the battery.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power and Home key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up keys.
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device
Note 4 No WAN Access On Wi-Fi
Problem: This issue is relation to the 5.2GHz or 2.4GHz in which the device will connect but will display no data access to wan but lan works awesome. This happened after the os upgrade to 5.1.1 it didn’t do this before. Now saying I just upgraded would lead you to believe that a factory reset is in order and yes sir that was done with os directly downloaded from Samsung so no os corruption or ad lest that was the attempt. Now I do have to say I have far fewer app force closes and the stability is outstanding I am really loving the new 5.1.1 aside from this odd issues. The network issues persists on other networks and my own works perfectly fine with galaxy s5 note 2 and other devices it’s sadly just my device that has this issue. I did another factory reset to 5.0.2 and downloaded the new os 5.1.1 just to make sure no luck. Any ideas?
Solution: Since you already performed a factory reset then we can rule out any old software data that may be causing this issue.
One other thing you can do is to try to install the previous KitKat software in your phone again and see if your Wi-Fi works. For this you will have to reflash your phone. Take not that this is not a Samsung supported procedure. You will have to do this manually. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
If your Wi-Fi works in KitKat then there may be a bug with the Lollipop update that you installed in your phone which may be resolved by a future update.
If however the issue still persists even in KitKat then the problem may already be hardware related. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Needs To Be Rebooted To Have Internet Access
Problem: I have been having this problem since I had previous phones. While I am in my house I am a connected to WiFi .When I go out of my house for some reason every time I have to reboot my phone in order to have internet access. This is annoying and I would like to know of there is a solution. Thank you very much.
Solution: I’m assuming that you have your Wi-Fi and mobile data turned on at the same time. When you go out of the house and you are out of range from your Wi-Fi signal the mobile data connection should automatically connect which isn’t happening in this case.
To resolve this issue try wiping the cache partition of your phone as this appears to be just a glitch in your phone software.
