Note 4 Call Gets Disconnected When Using Bluetooth Headset

Problem: Bluetooth headset disconnect after 2-3 minutes on call, have to hit speaker twice an DC then I can talk to person, headset reconnects sometimes.  Happens on multiple headsets, latest version including updates of android.

Solution: What you need to do first is to try to check if an app you installed in your phone is causing this issue by booting to Safe Mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key.
  • Release the Power key when the Samsung logo appears but continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

Try to make a call using your Bluetooth headset in this mode. If the call does not get disconnected then the problem is most likely caused by a third party app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If however you are still experiencing the same issue then I suggest you back up your phone data then do a factory reset.

  • Turn off the phone. If the phone will not turn off, remove and re-insert the battery.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power and Home key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device

Note 4 Can’t Hear Calls

Problem: I can’t hear unless less speaker is turned on or headphones are in.  No water damage. Started last week and I rebooted it by taking battery out and I could hear again. I also tried wiping cache and it didn’t work.

Solution: This may just be a software glitch if the reboot made the problem go away. Anyway, for a more permanent solution I suggest you do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding as this will get deleted in the process.

Note 4 Cannot Make Calls When LTE Signal Drops

Problem: When I am at home on Wi-Fi. My 4glte goes to 1x. I cannot receive nor make phone calls or text messages.

Solution: Start the troubleshooting by checking if there are any new software updates available for your phone and apply them.

Once your phone is running on the latest software update try to check if the same issue occurs when your phone is set to different network modes.

  • Tap Apps
  • Tap Settings
  • Tap More Networks
  • Tap Mobile Networks
  • Tap Network Mode

Set the mode to GSM then see if you still can make calls or send text messages in this mode.

If the problem disappears in GSM mode then this may be a temporary solution. When you connect to Wi-Fi just set the mode to GSM mode.

For a more permanent solution try to do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before doing this.

If the problem still persists then this may already be a hardware issue. I suggest bringing your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Called Party Cannot Hear Call

Problem: Hello yes and recently my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has had a few problems for me. My phone will not hear my voice when I talk into the speaker. This has only started today. And the pickup tone has changed and don’t know how to change it back. If you could help me that would be great.

Solution: For the issue regarding your voice not heard you should first check if the microphone of your phone is working. To do this simply open the voice recorder app of your phone and record a short voice message. Playback the recorded voice file then check if you can hear the recording. If you can’t hear anything then the microphone of your phone may already be damaged. A temporary solution to this is to use the phone headset when making calls as this comes with its own microphone. A more permanent solution would be to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

However, if you can hear your voice on the recorded file then the problem may just be a software glitch. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone and see if this resolves the problem.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power and Home key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key.
  • Continue holding the Volume Up key until the Android System Recovery menu displays and then release. This step may take several seconds.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Regarding the notification ringtone of your phone you can easily choose your preferred tone by following the steps listed below.

  • From the home screen, tap Apps.
  • Scroll to and tap Settings.
  • From the DEVICE tab, scroll to and tap Sounds and notifications.
  • Scroll to and tap Ringtones.
  • Tap your preferred ringtone and then tap OK.
  • You’ve now changed the phone ringtone.
