How To Fix Samsung Galaxy J6 Settings Stopped Working Error

Problem: Hello, I have been having the issue of not being able to access any of my phones settings.  I tried all of your steps from your guide and now it is worse. I didn’t want to do it, but I finally did a factory reset and the issue still remains but now I can’t get back my default settings or any button press settings that I had previously setup before this new update.  What other options do I have? I really don’t want to get a new phone just because of this issue. Also, if I try to submit a report to Samsung when the “Settings Stopped Working” error comes up, it won’t allow the report to go through.

Solution: Before troubleshooting this problem make sure to check that your phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then make sure to download and install it. Once the phone software is updated proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Wipe the cache partition in recovery mode

The first thing you will want to do in this case is to wipe the cache partition of the phone. This will remove the temporary system data which if corrupted could be causing the problem.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Perform a factory reset in recovery mode

In case the issue still persists then I recommend that you perform a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset as this will erase your phone data.

  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

In case the issue still persists after performing the above troubleshooting steps than you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
