How to fix Samsung Galaxy A20 stuck on Black Screen of Death

Some owners of the Samsung Galaxy A20 have experienced being stuck on the black screen of death. Most of the reports we received said that their phones just powered down without apparent reason and would no longer respond. Normally, users would think that it’s an issue with the hardware but more often than not, it’s actually just a minor firmware problem. Needless to say,  you can fix it on your own without having to take that trip back to the store. 

In this post, I will walk you through in fixing your Galaxy A20 that’s stuck on the black screen and would no longer respond. We will try to consider every possibility and the rule each one of them out. Fixing Galaxy A20 stuck on the Black Screen of Death

Most of the time, the black screen of death is just due to a firmware crash, provided that there are no signs of physical or liquid damage on your device. If you think it’s a hardware issue, then there’s no use in performing the following troubleshooting procedures. Just bring the phone back to the store or shop so that a technician can carefully check the extent of the damage. However, if the black screen of death just occurred without apparent reason, here’s what you need to do: 

First solution: Forced Restart your phone

That’s right! The first thing you have to do when dealing with a phone that is stuck on the black screen of death is to perform the forced restart. It is a simulated battery removal and will refresh the phone’s memory as well as reload all its apps and services. It might be the only thing you need to do to make your phone respond again and it’s very simple. Here’s how it’s done: 

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.

If you were able to make your phone respond, then the problem is fixed. However, if the phone didn’t respond after the first try, then do the same procedure a few more times and if it still not responding after that, then it’s a possible problem caused by a drained battery. Move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Charge phone and force restart it

Most of the time, a drained battery is actually not a problem because most devices would respond immediately once connected to the charger. But the thing is, if the battery was completely drained, it’s possible that the firmware crashed just before the phone powered down because some services and components may haven’t been shut down properly. As a result, you’re dealing with a couple of procedures that both result to the black screen of death. To try and fix this, follow these steps: 

1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet. 
2. Using the original cable, connect the phone to its charger. 
3. Regardless of whether the phone shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes. 
4. After which and while the phone is still connected to the charger, press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
5. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
6. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.

If the phone is still stuck on the black screen after doing these procedures, then it’s a possible hardware problem. You must bring the phone back to the store or shop so that a technician can check it up for you.

On the other hand, if you were able to make your phone respond again but the same problem occurs every now and then, you must try to reset it as some data files may need to be replaced so your phone could function properly. Prior to the reset, create a copy of your important files and data and then remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out. After doing that, follow these steps to reset your phone: 

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
