How to troubleshoot Galaxy Note 9 with Nova Launcher that keeps crashing?
When it comes to app issues, don’t worry too much because they’re not really that serious especially if the app in question is a third party. In fact, you can easily get rid of the problem by uninstalling the app but I understand why you want to use Nova Launcher. The purpose of this post will be to help you fix the problem so you can continue using the app. With that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about this problem…
Clear Nova Launcher Cache and Data
Since it’s clear where the problem comes from, we need to go after the app immediately because it could really be just a minor issue with Nova Launcher. So, clear its cache and data to bring it back to its default settings as well as delete possible corrupt cache and data files. If it’s just a problem with the app then this procedures is more than enough to fix it. However, you may lose your customizations but I think you could create new ones after the problem is fixed.
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > Apps.
- Find and tap Nova Launcher from the list.
- Tap Storage > CLEAR CACHE > CLEAR DATA > DELETE.
After doing this procedure, hit the Home key to trigger it. If the problem isn’t fixed, then you may be able to see the error message or your Note 9 may become sluggish. In such case, try doing the next procedure.
Uninstall Nova Launcher and reinstall it
Instead of just updating the app, it’s better to completely remove it from your phone through uninstallation to remove all its associations with other apps and the firmware as well as delete its cache and data files which may have been corrupted for some reason. After uninstalling it, download it from the Play Store and reinstall it.
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > Apps.
- Find and tap Nova Launcher.
- Tap UNINSTALL > OK.
- Reboot your phone.
- Open Play Store and search for ‘nova launcher’.
- Tap Nova Launcher and then install it.
Once it’s installed, set it up and trigger it by pressing the home button several times. Actually, this procedure is enough to fix app issues. But if for some reason the problem continues, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone.
Backup your files and do the master reset
At this point, a reset is already necessary because it’s possible that the problem is with the firmware. But before the reset, make sure to make a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted. You may move them to your SD card or computer.
- Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
