How To Fix Huawei P20 Pro Does Not Supercharge

Problem: I have a Huawei P20 Pro and it doesn’t supercharging anymore. When I connect the Phone to the power, the supercharge icon appears for 40-45 sec and then the charging icon appears. I don’t know if the problem Is the charge, the cable or the Phone. I already buy a New cable, but that doesnt solved the problem. I don’t want to buy a charge because it is expensive and I am not sure that could be the solution. Do you have any recommendation?

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone it’s best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.

The Huawei Supercharge feature is a fast charging technology that keeps the voltage as close to the battery’s cell voltage. This makes the charging process more efficient and can actually lengthen the lifespan of the battery.

If the Supercharge feature of the phone is not working then you should proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Try cleaning the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in this port.
  • If your phone got wet then make sure to charge the device only when the port is completely dry.
  • If you are using the original charging cord and wall charger but the issue occurs then you should try using a different original charging cord and wall charger.

If the issue still persists then try checking if this is caused by a software glitch.

Perform a soft reset

The first thing you will need to do in this case is a soft reset. This will refresh the phone software and will usually fix this kind of problem.

Boot the phone in Safe Mode

This will allow you to check if the problem is caused by an app you downloaded as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then you should find out what app is causing the problem and uninstall it.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Power it back on
  • When you see the Huawei animation on the screen press and hold volume down button
  • You can see safe mode at the bottom left corner once the device finishes booting

Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode

This will erase any temporary data or files stored in the phone that might already be corrupt and is causing the problem. This procedure will not erase your personal phone data.

  • Turn off your Huawei P20 Pro device.
  • Wait for few seconds until your phone completely turned off.
  • Press and hold Volume UP button along with Power button on your Huawei P20 Pro device simultaneously for a while
  • Your phone will enter the stock recovery mode
  • Use volume buttons to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’ and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

This is the last troubleshooting step that you should perform in case the above steps fails to fix the problem. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to create a backup copy before proceeding.

  • Press and hold the Volume up and Power buttons until the EMUI logo appears on the screen.
  • Touch Wipe data/factory reset.
  • Select Wipe data/factory reset.
  • The phone will now wipe all contents.
  • Select Reboot system now.
  • The phone will now reboot to the initial setup screen.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already. You will need to have the phone repaired at a service center.
