How To Fix HTC One M8 Music & Bluetooth Audio Related Problems

Welcome to our first installment in what is expected to be a series of focused troubleshooting articles concerning music and Bluetooth audio related problems on the HTC One M8. While these issues are minor in nature and not really a deal breaker they can still be an inconvenience to owners of this device who are having these problems.

M8 Google Play Music Automatically Downloads Music To Internal Storage

Problem: Hoping you can help.   Yesterday,  I noticed my music disappeared from my phone.   As the day went on,  I noticed music had begun downloading to my phone,  killing my battery and eating a ton of data.   I was very confused,  but since the music was repo pulsating,  I didn’t give it much thought… Until this morning.   When I looked at my phone,  I noticed most of my music was back,  but so was a message that says,  Im low on memory.   When I looked further,  I noticed that Google play looked different and all the music had downloaded to my PHONE,  and not my SD card.   I also noticed some songs were duplicated.   When I tried to move the music back to the SD card (which is where I originally had it),  I came to realize Google play wouldn’t allow me to do that.   I called Google,  and at first the rep didn’t know what I was talking about.   Then when she came back to the phone,  she told me that Google play no longer recognizes music on SD cards.   Further,  she said that if I Uninstall the update,  it will just reinstall in a few days,  and told me there is no work around.   The new update also adds an emphasis on their streaming services that I find intrusive.   2 questions:  How do I fix this?   What player can you recommend that will recognize music from my SD card?   For the record, I spent 26 years in the radio business,  and all my music is legal.   I find this move by Google to be infuriating.

Solution: This seems strange as Google Play Music has an option to save songs to the microSD. If your phone software is Android 4.4+ then try to perform the following actions.

• Open the Google Play Music app Google Play Music Icon.
• Touch the Menu icon  > Settings > Storage location > External.

If it doesn’t work then this may be a feature of the new update.

You may want to consider downloading a third party app from the Google Play Store to handle your music. I could suggest the paid version of Poweramp as it has one of the highest ratings and is being used by lots of consumers.

M8 No Sound On Bluetooth Speaker When Using SatNav

Problem: Hi I search from time to time and found your site but it didn’t fix my problem. This is connecting to a Bluetooth speaker namely a supertooth hd it does connect but sound is not coming from the supertooth when using satnav. I have tried Google maps and TomTom go no sound. I restarted my phone in safe mode and still no sound from maps as go wasn’t available. I am not easily beaten but this has so I am asking for help. Please please please.

Solution: Try restarting your phone and the Supertooth HD first and see if this resolves the issue.

If the issue persists then delete the Bluetooth connection between both devices and pair them again.

Delete the connection from your phone.

Delete the connection from the Supertooth HD as well.

• The SUPERTOOTH HD- must be set to pairing mode (from off, press and hold the On / Off button (7) until the Bluetooth indicator (2) turns blinking red/blue. The kit is now on pairing mode.) Once your kit is on pairing mode ignore the vocal procedure and press and hold the End / Reject button and Phonebook update (8) for 5 seconds until a distinctive melody is heard on the kit. Now, all the aired phones and the phonebook are erased.

Make sure your phone Bluetooth is turned on and discoverable before performing the procedure below.

• The SUPERTOOTH HD-L must be set to pairing mode (from off, press and hold the On / Off button (7) until the Bluetooth indicator (2) turns blinking red/blue. The kit is now on pairing mode.) Once your kit is on pairing mode the kit will say, “Press Volume Control 1) to select British English.” The SUPERTOOTH HD-L will cycle through all available languages. Short press the Volume Control button (3) when you hear your language. Once your preferred language is selected, ignore the vocal procedure and directly short press the Volume Control button (1). The kit will say, “Easy Pairing” and will process your phone research (beeps will be heard). Accept any connection request on your phone. Enter the pin code “0000” if requested.

M8 Not Playing Music When Connected To Car

Problem: Hello. I have a HTC one m8 Lte. And I try to play music in my car. The car has Bluetooth only for calls. But a ish port for playing music, when I plug it into the ish port it can sometimes take up to 5 attempts to get anything. But it just plays the music randomly, and it doesn’t play through any music player on the phone. I used to have an iPhone which had no problems with this car. It is a Ford Ka Grand Prix 2013. I have tried almost everything I can think of any nothing. Pleeeeeease help!

Solution: Since it takes a couple of tries to play music and you can’t choose what music to play whenever it starts playing then the car audio system may have compatibility issues with the HTC One M8. What troubleshooting steps have you done so far? If you have another Android device you should try to connect it to your car and see if the issue is the same. If the other device plays music normally then the issue may be with your M8.

What you can do is to restart your phone then check if it now works. If it doesn’t then I suggest you try to wipe the cache partition of your phone. This gets rid of the temporary data in your phone that may be causing this issue.

• Turn off the device.
• Press and hold the Volume Down key.
• Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
• Continue holding the Volume Down.
• Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
• Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
• Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
• The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
• Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
• Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
• Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
• Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
• Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.

M8 Distorted Music Issue

Problem: Hi, My phone recently has started to act up while I am playing music through the 3.5 mm audio out. Out of no where it will crackle and you wouldn’t be able to hear the music or any other audio. I have tried using multiple headphones and they all have this issue, plugged it into a friend’s phone and the headphones work just fine. I have had this issue on multiple roms, full stock, pure android, and others.

Solution: Check the 3.5mm audio jack of your phone if it has any signs of dirt or lint. Clean it with a toothpick or compressed air if needed as this may be causing the distortion.

You should also try to use a sample music file that is known to play well on other devices. Play this file on your phone and see if the distortion still occurs. If it does you need to wipe the cache partition of your phone.

• Turn off the device.
• Press and hold the Volume Down key.
• Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
• Continue holding the Volume Down.
• Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
• Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
• Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
• The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
• Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
• Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
• Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
• Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
• Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.

If the problem persists then a factory reset is highly recommended. Make sure to back up your data before proceeding.

• Press and hold the Power button
• Tap Power off.
• Press and hold the Volume Down key.
• Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
• Continue holding the Volume Down key.
• Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
• Press the Volume Down key twice to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to FACTORY RESET.
• Press the Power key to perform the master reset.

If the issue still persists after this then this may already be a hardware related problem. Bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.
