How to fix Google Play Store error 194 on Samsung Galaxy Note 9

The Google Play Store Error 194 that seems to be bugging a lot of Samsung Galaxy Note 9 users recently occurs when the user is downloading or installing an app. It is not a device- or app-specific problem so it could happen to other Android devices also. Most of the time, you will be prompted with this error while in the middle of installing an application, “App could not be downloaded due to an error. (194)” and the download will be halted. As a result, you will have to re-download it only to be greeted by the same error again.

We are not sure what really triggered this problem but it is imperative that you figure out all possibilities why this issue is happening. In other words, you need to rule out each and every possibility by performing some troubleshooting steps on your Note 9. Doing so will give you an idea as to what causes the problem and hopefully fix it. So, continue reading as this article may be able to help you one way or another.

Troubleshooting Galaxy Note 9 with Play Store error 194

While this problem is pretty annoying, it’s actually not that hard to fix and most of the time it’s just an issue with the Play Store itself. But try to do the procedures below and see what works for you…

First Solution: Perform Forced Restart

Before performing any troubleshooting procedure, we need to determine if this is just a glitch in the system. The Forced Restart is actually a simulated battery removal and it will refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all its apps and services. Here’s what you need to do…

Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy Note 9 logo shows on the screen.

When the procedure is done and the device is ready open your Play Store and download any app to see if the error 194 will still show up. If it does, then move on to the next procedure.

Second Solution: Clear Play Store Cache and Data

Another effective way to fix error code 194 is by clearing the Play Store cache and data. Doing this will bring the app back to its default settings by deleting its cache and data files so that new ones will be created. If it’s just an issue with the Play Store, as like majority of the cases we encountered before, then this procedure will fix the problem. Here’s how it’s done…

From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
Tap Settings > Apps.
Tap the 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
Find and tap Google Play Store.
Tap Storage.
Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
Tap Clear cache.
Reboot your phone.

Once the phone has rebooted, open the Play Store and try downloading any app to see if the error 194 would still pop up and if it does, then the problem could be due to interrupted internet connection. Move on to the next procedure.

Third Solution: Reset Network Settings

At this point, we have to determine if there’s something wrong with your internet connection. In other words, if the downloading process halted without apparent reason there is a chance that an interruption caused it. So, we recommend you to reset the network settings of your device to refresh all its wireless connections. This is how it’s done on your Note 9…

From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
Tap Reset settings.
If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

After this, let your phone reconnect to the network and then open the Play Store and download any app. If the Play Store error 194 still shows up, then it’s probably a result of a firmware issue. Move on to the next procedure to troubleshoot the firmware.

Fourth solution: Delete the system cache

At this point in our troubleshooting, the best thing to do is actually a reset but we have to be thorough so before that, it’s best to delete the system cache first so that it will be replaced with a new one. There are times when the system cache gets corrupted and would result to performance and app issues like this. So, follow these steps to wipe the cache partition of your Note 9:

Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
When the Galaxy Note 9 logo shows, release all three keys.
Your Galaxy Note 9 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
Press Power key to select.
Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.

Try downloading an app once the phone has finished rebooting and if the Play Store error 194 still shows up, proceed to the reset.

Fifth solution: Perform Master Reset

When all procedures mentioned above failed to resolve the issue, then the best thing that you can do is to reset your phone. This will wiped out files and data saved in the internal storage and bring the device back to its default settings. But you can rest assured that this will fix the error 194 on your phone.

Before the reset, however, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process. After the backup, make sure to remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. Once everything is set, follow these steps to reset your phone:

Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
When the Galaxy Note 9 logo shows, release all three keys.
Your Galaxy Note 9 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
Press Power button to select.
Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.
