How to fix Galaxy Tab S5e running slow | troubleshoot slow performance

Are you having trouble with your Galaxy Tab S5e? In this short guide, we’ll show you how to fix it when your Galaxy Tab S5e is running slow or has slow performance issue.

Galaxy Tab S5e running slow solution #1: Close apps

If your find your Galaxy Tab S5e running slow, the first thing that you want to do is close apps. If you’re trying to play a game and the system appears to lag all of a sudden, it’s possible that it may be running out of resources to keep the speed up.

Too many apps running actively and in the background may cause slow performance. Although Android is designed to automatically manage RAM efficiently without user input, it does not happen at all times. If left running for a long time, it may be unable to work properly as well as developers hope. From time to time, you still need to close apps in order to clear its memory. If you’ve been experiencing slow performance issue for some time now, closing apps as a troubleshooting step is not a bad idea.

If you don’t want to manually close all apps, you can try to selectively do so by going after big, resource-demanding apps first like games or social media apps. To close an app on the Galaxy Tab S5e:

  1. Tap the Recent Apps key, which is left of the home button on your screen (shown above)
  2. Scroll up or down to see what’s running and open
  3. Swipe from the left or right to close apps
  4. Swipe it off the screen to close it
  5. This will clear the app

If you want to just simply close all apps:

  1. Tap the Recent Apps key, which is left of the home button on your screen (shown above)
  2. Scroll up or down to see what’s running and open
  3. Select Close All button at the bottom of the screen.

Galaxy Tab S5e running slow solution #2: Check for overheating

In some cases, slow performance issue can be caused by overheating. Overheating can happen if there’s an app issue, software glitch, or hardware malfunction. If you noticed that your device has gone slow and become too warm to touch when you use it, it’s likely overheating. By design, the Galaxy Tab S5e is supposed to keep the system slower or shut down the system if internal temperature becomes too high.

In most cases, overheating can also just be an indicator of a deeper problem. If your S10 keeps overheating even when you’re not using it to run big apps like games, there may be a more serious trouble underlying it. You must do a factory reset to check if it can be fixed on your end or not.

Galaxy Tab S5e running slow solution #3: Perform soft reset

If your Galaxy Tab S5e is still running slow, the next thing to do is to restart the device. Instead of the usual restart though, it’s better if you can simulate the effects of a soft reset or a “battery pull” procedure. In older devices, this is done by simply removing the battery to restart the phone. Since it’s borderline impossible to do that on the Galaxy Tab S5e, what you can do is to its equivalent. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Wait for up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

Galaxy Tab S5e running slow solution #4: Clear cache partition

Having a corrupted system cache is another potential reason for your problem. Android uses a special cache called system cache in order to load apps quickly. If this cache gets corrupted or outdated, usually after an update or app installation, the entire system may perform sluggishly. You want to ensure that the system cache is refreshed if none of the suggestions above has helped. To keep the cache in top shape, we suggest that you try wiping the cache partition. Follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Galaxy Tab S5e running slow solution #5: Install updates

Some forms of slow performance problems on Android are due to poor coding. This means that there’s nothing much a user can do about them except to wait for coding changes via updates. If your Galaxy Tab S5e is running slow due to an issue with the software, it’s important that you keep the device updated. Keep in mind that there’s no obvious indicator whether a problem is due to poor coding or not. So, it’s a good idea to keep the software and apps updated all the time.

Galaxy Tab S5e running slow solution #6: Check for rogue apps

Sometimes, a bad app may be installed and cause interference with Android or with other apps. If your Galaxy Tab S5e started running slow after installing an app, it may be the cause. Delete that app and see how it goes. Or, you can launch the device on safe mode. In this mode, all third party apps will be blocked. If one of the apps is causing the trouble, the phone should work normally on safe mode.

To isolate which of your apps may be causing it, follow these steps to load the phone to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
  8. Once on safe mode, try to charge the phone for at least 30 minutes and see what happens.

If you’ve confirmed that there’s a bad app in the system, the next thing to do is delete the most recent app you installed. If you can’t remember which app was installed recently, or if uninstalling it won’t work, use the process of elimination to identify it. This is how it’s done:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Galaxy Tab S5e is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Galaxy Tab S5e running slow solution #7: Recalibrate battery and OS

Sometimes, an Android device may perform poorly if the battery and OS are buggy. Power management system is a complex software environment and sometimes, a glitch may affect the OS in reading battery levels. This can sometimes lead to random reboot troubles. To ensure that this does not happen, especially to a new phone, you want to recalibrate the battery and Operating System. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Drain the battery completely. This means using your device until it powers down by its own and the battery level reads 0%.
  2. Charge the phone until it reaches 100%. Be sure to use original charging equipment for your device and let it charge up completely. Do not unplug your device for at least two more hours and also don’t use it while charging.
  3. After the elapsed time, unplug your device.
  4. Restart the device.
  5. Use your phone until it completely runs out of power again.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5.

Galaxy Tab S5e running slow solution #8: Factory reset

If the suggestions above has not helped a bit and your Galaxy Tab S5e is still running slow, the final troubleshooting that you can do on your device is factory reset. This helps if the cause of the problem is software in nature. Factory reset will wipe all your personal data so be sure to back your files up before doing it. Below are the two ways to factory reset your Galaxy Tab S5e:

Method 1: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e  via Settings Menu

This is the easiest way to wipe your Galaxy Tab S5e . all you have to do is to go under Settings menu and follow the steps below. We recommend this method if you have no trouble going under Settings.

  1. Create a backup of your personal data and remove your Google account.
  2. Open Settings app.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Select Factory data reset from the given options.
  6. Read the information then tap Reset to continue.
  7. Tap Delete All to confirm action.

Method 2: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e  using hardware buttons

If your case is that the phone is not booting up, or it boots but Settings menu is inaccessible, this method can be helpful. First, you need to boot the device to Recovery Mode. Once you successfully access Recovery, that’s the time that you begin proper master reset procedure. It may take some tries for you before you can access Recovery so be patient and simply try again.

  1. If possible, create a backup of your personal data ahead of time. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
  2. Also, you want to make sure that you remove your Google account. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
  3. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  4. Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Bixby button at the same time.
  5. While still holding the Volume Up and Bixby keys, press and hold the Power button.
  6. The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
  7. Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
  8. Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
  9. Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
  10. Press the Power button to confirm factory reset.

Galaxy Tab S5e running slow solution #9: Contact Samsung

The last troubleshooting step that you want to do in this case, if factory reset did not help, is to assume that there may be a deeper reason for the issue. It can be bad hardware or poor coding deep within the software. Make sure to contact Samsung so they can examine the phone and see if they can repair or replace it.
