How to fix Galaxy S8 camera failed error

Hello everyone! Today’s troubleshooting article covers another batch of common #GalaxyS8 issues. As usual, the cases mentioned below are taken from reports we received from you. As there’s constantly a lot of such cases being reported daily, we only handpick those that we think are being experienced by many.

If you are looking for solutions to your own #Android issue, you can contact us by using the link provided at the bottom of this page. When describing your issue, please be as detailed as possible so we can easily pinpoint a relevant solution. If you can, kindly include the exact error messages you are getting to give us an idea where to start. If you have already tried some troubleshooting steps before emailing us, make sure to mention them so we can skip them in our answers.

Problem #1: Galaxy S8 won’t turn back on after shutting down on its own

Hi team. i have a problem with my Samsung galaxy s8 which automatically switched off while i was playing a game and now it doesn’t switch on. i tried force restart pressing volume down and power key simultaneously. also i tried second method of pressing volume down key for few seconds and power key after that together, nothing happened. then i followed your third step to charge on wall outlet and now my phone heats up. is there another method u can help me fix my problem before i go to technician?

Solution: Sometimes, too much gaming is not healthy and can lead to an overheated system. While a lot of phones can play games, they are generally not designed to play games for a long time. Doing so will most likely demand huge resources and power, which can then lead to overheating. Once a phone has overheated, you need to let it cool down first. Most phones are designed to shut down on their own once internal temperature has reached a certain level to avoid damaging components. This is most likely the reason why your S8 turns off while you’re using it for a game. If you’ve already allowed it to cool off for at least an hour but it still refuses to power back on, make sure to charge it for one hour before turning it back on again. If that fails too, together with the rest of the troubleshooting steps that you’ve tried, then the issue must now be bad hardware. In this case, you want to let a professional check the hardware.

Problem #2: How to fix Galaxy S8 damaged screen: bottom screen keeps flickering after accidental drop

I dropped my Galaxy S8 from my desk, there are no cracks on my screen, but my screen has been flickering green or white on the bottom half of the screen. I’m not sure if I damaged the OLED, but this is definitely a hardware problem. The phone still responds to my finger and I get notifications, the phone just won’t let me see the bottom half of the screen properly. Is there anyway this problem could be fixed?

Solution: You’re right, this is a hardware problem and unfortunately, you can’t fix it by doing a software tweak. The LCD or monitor must had been damaged by the drop. Try pressing around the affected area to see if additional pressure can make it work. Sometimes, a drop may lead to some parts being disconnected.

If that won’t work, the best thing that you can do is to either let Samsung do the repair or an independent service center check and replace the screen assembly. Both of these will cost you something so you must be ready to invest in a repair fee. Even if your S8 is still within Samsung’s warranty period, you still have to shoulder the cost of the technician fee and parts replacement.

Problem #3: How to fix Galaxy S9 Plus app issue: can’t open an app (The Law Of Attraction Library) and keeps showing Network error

Hello. I have a Galaxy S9 plus. I am trying to run an App Called “The Law Of Attraction Library.” It’s worked fine in the past. I tried to open it yesterday and I keep getting “Network Error” then the app kicks me offline. I tried clearing the Cache and the memory for the app. But now I lost everything I downloaded. Lol. Can you help?

Solution: If you are only having an issue with this app and the rest are working normally, the most likely bug lies on the app itself. Since you’ve already tried some troubleshooting before you contacted us, these are some of the things that you need to try:

Reinstall the app

This is a must-do troubleshooting step when faced with app problems. Some app-specific bugs are fixed by simply removing the app from the system temporarily. If you haven’t tried it before, just go under Play Store app and remove The Law Of Attraction Library app. Afterwards, restart the phone before installing it again.

Install update

If you don’t allow your phone to automatically install updates on its own, then it’s high time that you manually check if there are any updates you have missed. By updates, we are referring to both Android and app updates.

To check for Android updates, open Settings app and tap Software update.

For app updates, open Play Store app and update all them from there.

Reset app preferences

Some apps may only work properly if core Samsung and Google apps are enabled. To ensure that default apps are enabled, you want to reset app preferences. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap More settings (three-dot) icon at the upper right.
  4. Tap Reset app preferences.

Reset network settings

Another possible solution in this case is to reset your phone’s network settings. Here’s how to do that:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap General Management > Reset settings.
  3. Tap Reset Network settings.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

Contact app developer

If all our suggestions won’t help at all, the problem must be coming from the app itself. There may be a bug that the developer failed to anticipate. In such situations, the only solution is for the developer to figure out a way to correct it and release a patch in the next update. As an end user, all you can do is to report the issue and hope that a patch will be coming soon.

Problem #4: How to fix Galaxy S8 camera failed error

S8 active att. Camera when opened says camera failed. And when i open flashlight it says can’t open being used by another app. The other day it stopped and my camera worked again Last night turned on alarm then this morning when time to go off it said it failed. And now camera doing same thing. I deleted my alarm thinking it was the cause because i have the flash option on it.

Solution: For an issue like this, the first troubleshooting step that you can do is to reset all settings of the Camera app to defaults. We assume you’re using the stock (pre-installed) app and not a third party.

To reset Samsung Camera settings:

  1. Open Camera app.
  2. Tap Settings icon at the upper right (gear icon).
  3. Tap Reset settings.
  4. Hit Reset to confirm.

If that won’t help, clear the app’s data with these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap your app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Restart your S8 and check for the problem.

To check if a third party app is causing the camera to stop working properly, you can restart the phone to safe mode. In this mode, only pre-installed apps will be allowed to run so if camera app works normally, that confirms our suspicion. To restart to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
  8. Check for the problem.

To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your S8 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Factory reset

If the problem is still there at this point, you should not hesitate to wipe the phone thru factory reset. This will return all software information to their defaults including the camera app. If the cause of the issue is a bug in the operating system, factory reset will most likely help.

To factory reset your S8:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
