How To Dial An Extension

With cell phones skyrocketing in popularity over the past 20 years and the rise of smartphones over the last decade, it’s easy to forget how to do once-simple tasks via the telephone. Even something as remembering a phone number for a family member is harder because we get so used to just going to a contact list and selecting the name – the actual numbers just blend into the background.

Calling an extension is becoming something similar because it doesn’t need to be done as often as usual. Fortunately, it’s usually a simple process. Just dial the number as you usually would and if you know your extension, dial it right away – unless it requires a menu first. If it does, then listen to the menu options and select the choice that suits your needs best.

Sometimes you won’t be able to enter an extension straight away. You’ll have to way for an automated voice to say something along the lines of “if you know your party’s extension, you can dial it now.” You’ll need to be pretty quick entering it, but it’s usually just a couple of numbers.
