How to Sync Fitbit Charge 6 With Your Phone: A Step-by-Step Guide

Syncing your Fitbit Charge 6 with your phone is a straightforward process that ensures you can track your health metrics, receive notifications, and enjoy seamless integration between your wearable device and your mobile phone. Here’s a detailed step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

1. Install the Fitbit App

To begin, you need to download and install the Fitbit app on your mobile device. This app is available on both the Google Play Store for Android users and the Apple App Store for iOS users.

  • For Android Users: Open the Google Play Store, search for "Fitbit," and download the app.
  • For iOS Users: Open the Apple App Store, search for "Fitbit," and download the app.

2. Sign In to Your Fitbit Account

Once the app is installed, open it and sign in with your Fitbit or Google account. If you are new to Fitbit, you will need to create an account. Note that starting in 2025, Google accounts will be mandatory for new users, although existing users can continue using their Fitbit accounts until then.

3. Set Up Your Fitbit Charge 6

Ensure your Fitbit Charge 6 is fully charged and turned on. If this is your first time setting up the device, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup.

4. Pair Your Fitbit Charge 6 with Your Phone

To pair your Fitbit Charge 6 with your phone, follow these steps:

  • Turn on Bluetooth: Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
  • Open the Fitbit App: Launch the Fitbit app on your phone.
  • Follow Prompts: The app will guide you through the pairing process. You may need to enter a 4-digit code displayed on your Fitbit Charge 6 to complete the pairing.

5. Ensure Proper Permissions

For the Fitbit app to function correctly, it needs certain permissions. These include location services and background app refresh, especially for iOS users:

  • For iOS Users: Go to your phone settings, scroll down to find the Fitbit app, and ensure that "Background App Refresh" is turned on. This allows the app to sync data continuously even when it is not open.

6. Sync Your Data

To sync your Fitbit data with your phone, follow these steps:

  • Open the Fitbit App: Launch the Fitbit app on your phone.
  • Go to the Today Tab: Tap the "Today" tab at the bottom of the screen.
  • Refresh and Sync: Hold and drag down from the top of the screen to refresh and sync your data. Alternatively, you can tap the devices icon (top left corner), select your tracker, and tap "Sync Now".

7. Troubleshooting Common Issues

If you encounter issues with syncing, here are some troubleshooting steps:

  • Check MobileTrack: Ensure that MobileTrack is not activated, as this feature can cause discrepancies in step counts between your Fitbit and the app. To disable MobileTrack, go to the devices icon in the Fitbit app, find the "Mobile Device Active" option, and remove it from your account.
  • Restart Devices: Sometimes, simply restarting both your Fitbit Charge 6 and your phone can resolve syncing issues. Uninstall and reinstall the Fitbit app if necessary.
  • Clear App Cache: If you are experiencing syncing problems, try clearing the app's cache to remove any corrupted data that might be interfering with the app's performance.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully sync your Fitbit Charge 6 with your phone, ensuring that you can monitor your health and fitness metrics seamlessly.

  1. Several months ago I got a new Charge 6 Fitbit. I loaded the appropriate app and it worked fine until 3 days ago. Suddenly the Fitbit would not sync with my Samsung phone. Following instructions on the app and the phone I did the following unsuccessful procedures: 1) clear cache 2) reinstalled the app 3) check to see if Bluetooth recognized and could sync with Charge 6 (it could not see it). 4) restarted the app. Nothing enabled the phone to sync with the app. I was unable to find “Mobile track” in the devices screen to turn it off. The app on the phone keeps trying to connect/sync unsucessfully. Please help.
