How to Fix Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Battery Draining Fast
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 can experience rapid battery drain due to power-hungry settings, background apps, or software bugs. Here are all the methods to extend your Galaxy Watch 4 battery life and fix excessive drain.
Method 1: Check Battery Usage
Identifying which apps or features are draining the most battery helps you target the problem directly.
- On your watch, go to Settings, then Battery.
- Check the battery usage breakdown to see which apps are consuming the most power.
- If a specific app is using an unusually high percentage, consider uninstalling it or restricting its background activity.
Method 2: Disable Always-On Display
The always-on display is one of the biggest battery drains on the Galaxy Watch 4.
- Go to Settings on your watch.
- Tap Display.
- Toggle off Always On Display.
- The screen will now only light up when you raise your wrist or tap the screen.
Method 3: Reduce Screen Brightness
A bright screen uses significantly more battery than a dimmer setting.
- Go to Settings, then Display, then Brightness.
- Lower the brightness level to 4 or 5 out of 10.
- Enable Auto brightness to let the watch adjust based on ambient light.
Method 4: Turn Off GPS and Wi-Fi When Not Needed
GPS and Wi-Fi continuously scanning for connections drains battery quickly even when you are not actively using them.
- Go to Settings, then Connections.
- Toggle off Wi-Fi or set it to Auto so it only connects when Bluetooth is disconnected.
- Go to Settings, then Location, and toggle off Location if you do not need GPS tracking.
- Turn these back on only when you need them for workouts or navigation.
Method 5: Disable Raise to Wake
Raise to wake turns on the screen every time you move your wrist, which can activate the display hundreds of times per day.
- Go to Settings, then Display.
- Toggle off Raise to wake.
- You can still wake the screen by tapping it or pressing the button.
Method 6: Limit Notifications
Every notification that buzzes your watch wakes the screen and uses battery. Limiting notifications to essential apps saves significant power.
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone.
- Tap Watch settings, then Notifications.
- Review the list of apps sending notifications to your watch.
- Turn off notifications for non-essential apps like social media, games, and shopping apps.
- Keep notifications on only for calls, messages, and important apps.
Method 7: Update Watch Software
Samsung regularly releases software updates that include battery optimization improvements and bug fixes.
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone.
- Tap Watch settings, then Watch software update.
- Download and install any available updates.
- Let the watch restart and monitor battery life over the next day.
Method 8: Uninstall Battery-Draining Apps
Third-party watch apps, especially poorly optimized ones, can run in the background and drain battery.
- On your watch, go to Settings, then Apps.
- Review your installed apps.
- Uninstall any apps you rarely use or that showed high battery usage in Method 1.
- Use simple watch faces instead of animated or complex ones, as they use less power.
Method 9: Factory Reset
If battery drain persists after trying all other methods, a factory reset can resolve deep software issues causing the problem.
- Back up your watch data through the Galaxy Wearable app.
- On your watch, go to Settings, then General, then Reset.
- Tap Reset to confirm.
- Set up the watch again and monitor battery life over 2 to 3 days.
so basically to get longer battery life you need to turn off all the applications you bought the watch for. I’ve owned the galaxy watch and the galaxy 4 watch. Pieces of crap because after two years the batteries do not last more than 5-6 hours.
