Problem 1: Galaxy S7 edge won’t download apps after installing an update

I have a S7 edge. I used to have many games on it but i deleted them some time back. Games like Need for speed No limits, mortal kombat x, sniper fury, modern combat, asphalt extreme, and even Color Switch. After the last update i cannot download any of these games because the play store shows that my device is not compatible with this version. I had already complained samsung about the same but they just said that contact the app developer about such issues. How is it possible that after updating the device i am not able to download apps which i previously had. I haven’t tried any troubleshooting. PLEASE HELP. — Sabhya25

Solution: Hi Sabhya25. We tried to install all the games you mentioned in our own Galaxy S7 edge that runs the latest Android Nougat update and we can confirm that they are not compatible at all. It’s not Samsung’s fault that these apps are no longer supported in the Galaxy S7 edge. Android is constantly evolving so newer operating system versions must be installed from to time, especially for flagship phones such as the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. If an app developer fails to keep up with the new Android update, their products (apps) may become incompatible overnight. This must be the reason why the apps mentioned above can no longer be installed in your device. If you want to know if the developers plan on updating their apps in the future, you can contact them via the contact information provided in their app download page in the Play Store.

If you’re dying to play or use these apps, you can risk the security of your phone by reverting to the older Android versions such as Lollipop or Marshmallow.

Other reasons why an Android device can’t install an app are as follows:

You can definitely explore these other possible reasons but we are 99% positive that these apps are simply incompatible with Android Nougat. If you want to know more about these causes, kindly more additional research on your own.

Problem 2: Galaxy S7 can’t create Whatsapp backup

Hi. Whatsapp failed to backup since since 26th  September. The backup will stop midway after about 50% backup then stopped and the error message is “Couldn’t complete backup. Check your phone’s internet connection and tap backup”. But this got nothing to do with my internet connection. My internet connection is OK. I’ve tried using wifi and also mobile data but still the same error message came up. Please help me how to solve this issue as I’m planning to get a new phone so I need the backup very soon. I’ve tried a solution that I’ve got from the internet which advised to download the apk files from whatsapp web, but seems I can’t install the apps. I really need a help on this. —  Syahida

Solution: Hi Syahida. There are two ways to create a backup of Whatsapp chat history and messages:

  1. by using Google Drive
  2. via local backup that occurs automatically every day

We assume you’re having a problem with creating a backup to Google Drive. To troubleshoot the issue, check the steps below.

  1. Make sure that you’re signed in to the correct Google account in your phone. If you have more than one Google account, be sure to try to log in to each one of them to see if creating the backup will be successful.
  2. Ensure that you have enough storage space in Google Drive to accomodate the new backup file. Check the Google Drive app and see if there’s enough storage space left at the bottom left corner.
  3. Check if you can install other apps. If you cannot install apps, your phone may have a problem with Google Play Services app. Do a factory reset (steps provided below) to return all software settings back to their defaults.
  4. Try switching to wifi if you rely mainly on cellular service.

For reference, here are the steps on how to factory reset your Galaxy S7:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  7. Now highlight the option Yes — delete all user data using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  8. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

If all the steps above won’t still allow you to create a backup of your Whatsapp app, contact the developer for support.

Problem 3: Galaxy S7 email app won’t send reply in email app

I am suddenly having a problem with my email app. When i try to reply to an email i get a ‘loading messages’ pop up with the never ending circle which hangs up – it goes on forever until you cancel it and never ‘loads the message’.  It happens on every response no matter how long the email was. A direct email works. Just in replying does this happen.  I have undone and redone the set up 3 times – no luck.  Called ATT they said call email provider (it works on my computer and web browser both on computer and on browser in phone. Help. — Valerie

Solution: Hi Valerie. There may be an issue or bug with the email app you’re using. To fix the issue, make sure that you try the solutions below.

Solution 1: Wipe the cache partition

This is to ensure that the phone’s system cache is not corrupted. Clearing the cache partition wipes the system cache, forcing the phone to create  a new system cache. This can be done safely without fear of losing your personal data. Here’s how:

  5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  8. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

Solution 2: Clear email app cache and data

Another good troubleshooting step that you can do when it comes to an issue like this is to delete the app cache first. If that won’t fix the issue, you can proceed to clearing the app data. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
  2. Navigate down to Apps. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
  3. Once in there, look for the application and tap it.
  4. You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
  5. You should now clearly see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons for the application. Do the Clear Cache first.

Solution 3: Factory reset

This solutions aims to restore all operating system and app settings back to their known working state. If you’re using the stock email app, all its settings will be returned to its factory state as well, eliminating any possible bug that may have developed over time.

Solution 4: Use another email app

If the issue remains after you do a factory reset, you should consider using another email app. There are many alternate email apps in the Play Store but we recommend to use only from major developers like Google and Microsoft. Try to use Google’s Gmail app first and see if that will work normally. If not, try Microsoft’s Outlook.
