Phones get warm, especially during and after an extensive use. Becoming HOT while charging though is definitely over-the-top. We discuss this issue below together with some other unrelated problems.

Problem #1: Galaxy S6 received text messages are out of order
What I am noticing is that when most people write me a long text message, two things occur: I either get it in bits and pieces, like separate messages (often out of order) OR I only get one sentence. This morning, my friend, with whom this is happening the most, and who uses a Samsung Note 3 on Verizon, sent me long text. I only received on sentence from it. She had to resend me the whole text, which then came over to me in 7 messages. At first I thought maybe this happened because I have been putting my phone on airplane at night to conserve battery and when I took it off of airplane mode, naturally, everything started hitting the phone at once. So I thought maybe that affected it. But then just now, 4 hours later, she wrote me a 5 sentence text and it came over a separate messages.
So I would like to know if think this is an issue on my end or perhaps something I can address on my own phone, or perhaps an issue on her end, or even an AT&T or Samsung thing.
I noticed it has not just happened with her, which leads me to believe it is my phone. Yet I have another friend who uses an iPhone and sends me long text messages all the time without issue.

Solution: Hi Jennifer. If this issue occurs when receiving text messages from more than one contact, the issue is most probably on your end. We’ve noticed this problem in Galaxy S5 before and an effective way to address it is to ensure that the system time and date are set correctly.
- Go to phone Settings and tap it.
- Press Date and time.
- Turn on automatic date and time update
- Press Automatic date and time until the function is turned on.
- Make sure Automatic Date and Time, and Automatic time zone are checked.
Problem #2: Galaxy S6 Edge Plus which suffered from high fall won’t power on
My beloved Samsung S6 Edge+ decided to fly out of my bag in Las Vegas, and fell down a lift shaft 18 floors high! The phone was retrieved but sustained multiple injuries. The screens back and front are smashed and the front screen is half missing. The battery is starting to swell but the phone is still alive! The blue light in the top left corner still flashes and it’s making noises, so I’m reluctant to ditch it just yet. Plus I need to retrieve the data on it. I tried to unlock the screen through my Samsung account but not successful. Do you think that the motherboard is still active and if I got the screen replaced to unlock the phone, do you think there is a chance I can connect to a PC to take off the data I need? None of my contacts are on my SIM, so I’ve lost all those too and any type of help would be greatly appreciated 🙂 — Toni
Solution: Hi Toni. It’s almost unbelievable that an electronic device can survive such a fall! We don’t know the tolerance from shock and vibration of Galaxy S6 internal components but it’s safe to assume that some of the critical ones may have failed at this time. There’s no telling if you can still successfully revive the phone if you install a new display assembly unless you try it. We are not very optimistic about it though. It’s your call whether or not to invest in a new screen but the chance of turning the phone back on is pretty slim.
Problem #3: Galaxy S6 Edge gets too hot when charging
Hello there. I bought my Samsung S6 Edge 7 months ago. Since the beginning, the cable entrance gets hot when is charging. I thought it was a normal effect for the Fast Charging Feature. What I do is to unplug my phone when it gets too hot, just to avoid any issues. I don’t know if that is normal or there is something wrong with the cable or the phone.
Lately, when it is charging, a message comes out saying that “Battery Charge Paused, battery temperature is to hot”. But neither the cable or the battery are hot. So, I don’t know if the battery is damaged or is just the phone. I believe that it was caused by the hot temperature in the previous months from the cable while it was charging, but I’m not sure.
What do you think I should do and what could the reason for this to happen? Just to add, when it was charging, sometimes it makes a sound that comes from charging entrance. The sounds only comes when I use it while is charging, so, I avoid using it while is charging. Is the sound normal?
Last week, the phone takes a long time to charge. When the phone is plug in to the official charger, the logo of “Fast Charging” appears, but after 10 minutes, it stop charging. But the battery sign still appears as if it was charging.
The battery also doesn’t last as much as before. When is at 30%, it usually last me about 1 hour, 30 minutes with the wi-fi on and I use it. Now, it last 20 minutes.
Also, my cable have a few spots where the inner cables can be seen. Some inner cables are exposed and you can see it. I’m not sure if that could cause the phone not to charge. But other than that, it just doesn’t charge as fast as before. At some points, it doesn’t charge at all. — Yonie
Solution: Hi Yonie. If any part of the phone or charging cable gets uncomfortably too hot anytime during charging period, that’s not normal. You must immediately stop charging the device. Although Samsung Galaxy series phones are designed to stop charging if ambient temperature gets high (which may be the reasons for the “Battery Charge Paused, battery temperature is to hot” error), we still recommend that you unplug the S6 and charger from the power source to be safe. Don’t get us wrong. It’s pretty normal for a charging phone to get warm. Cellphones that get HOT though is a different issue. If you feel your skin burning upon touching, that’s an obvious indicator that something’s wrong.
There must be a hardware issue on any of the involved devices. Your first task is to find where the issue lies. Using a different charger is a good way to begin the troubleshooting. If you have another official Samsung charger, try it to see the difference. If nothing changes, then you can assume that either the phone’s charging port is bad, the battery has malfunctioned, or the phone itself has encountered a hardware error.
We think it won’t hurt though if you consider doing some software-related checks before you say that hardware is to blame. Some of the common reasons why a smartphone gets warm includes:
- playing videos, games, or other media apps;
- tethering your device or using it as a Wi-Fi hotspot;
- using the device while it’s charging; or
- downloading or uploading a lot of data over 3G or Wi-Fi connection.
If you want to further confirm whether a software glitch may be behind the trouble, you can try some basic solutions like wiping the cache partition or doing a factory reset. For easy reference, please find the steps on how to do them below:
How to wipe the cache partition of a Galaxy S6
For minor firmware-related issues brought by apps and firmware updates, wiping the cache partition often does the trick. It’s because this procedure will literally delete all cached files in the cache partition, which will force the system to create new ones during the next boot up. This procedure is also very helpful in fixing issues like random reboots, boot loop, stuck during boot up, random freezes, and some charging issues. Here’s how you wipe the cache partition on your S6 Edge:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
How to factory reset a Galaxy S6 Edge
For serious firmware-related issues, the factory reset is often the ultimate fix. It’s because it will bring the phone back to its factory defaults deleting all files, data, settings, apps, personal information, accounts, etc. This procedure will also remove any unnecessary processes causing battery drain.
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Find and tap the Settings icon.
- Under the ‘Personal’ section, find and tap Backup and reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Touch Reset device to proceed with the reset.
- Depending on the security lock you used, enter the PIN or password.
- Tap Continue.
- Touch Delete all to confirm your action.
IMPORTANT: Try to observe the phone for 24 hours after a factory reset to see the difference. If the issue is due to a third party app, the issue can return after you re-install it.
Now, if the phone still gets hot, you can safely assume that’s a hardware error is to blame. If your phone is still covered by repair or replacement warranty, make sure to use any of them to resolve the problem.
Problem #4: Galaxy S6 losing battery power fast
Hi. My issue started initially with my phone shutting itself down when I was in the middle of texting (I’m certain that I still had 60% battery left) and it wouldn’t turn on even when I had the phone plugged into the charger. After much frustration and pretty much just holding onto the power button, it miraculously turned back on, which brings me to my current problem.
The battery on my phone has been draining like crazy. Overnight it would drop from 100% to 40%, that’s with me closing all my tabs and ensuring that all my apps are closed. It continued for a couple of days and I followed some of the advice your site, such as safe mode (which didn’t help me pinpoint anything). So I resolved in a factory reset, and reset my whole phone from scratch.
However, the battery draining is still persistent. I have no idea why this is the case. I have not dropped my phone, and I only have the essential apps like WhatsApp and Facebook messenger. I don’t download games or anything. Would you be able to figure out what is causing the battery drainage? Should I just get a new phone? Thanks in advance. — Jenny
Solution: Hi Jenny. Battery drain issue has several causes and are not limited to firmware or apps. If booting in safe mode and doing a factory reset did not change anything, that indicates that a hardware issue may be at fault. The phone’s battery may have encountered an error, or even damaged for some reason. Unfortunately, there’s no way for us to know exactly what the problem is. You must try to do more troubleshooting and narrow down the possible causes further to know that. In your case, since standard troubleshooting seemed to have no effect, your best bet is to have the phone replaced.
Problem #5: How to capture screenshots on Galaxy S6
Is there any way to capture a screen shot without using the palm swipe method?
The palm swipe, well quite frankly, it blows. When attempting it, it will close the page, shift the page, zoom as if double tapped, by about the 8th attempt it usually will eventually capture the screen shot. Off center, half way through a page…. or some other warped anomaly….
What’s the matter with pushing a couple buttons at the same time or something other than this palm swipe?
Why have you not put solar chargers integrated to the body of the phone?
Those old solar calculators cell was…you guessed it 4.7 volts. Nobody is killing the battery market. It’s self-charging.
Unplug! If every cell phone was unplugged from a wall charger.

Solution: Hi Brendan. There are two methods to capture a screenshot on a Galaxy S6. One is by touching the screen with the side of your hand and swiping across from left to right, or vice versa. The other is by pressing the Home and Power buttons at the same time for at least 2 seconds.
