What To Do If Galaxy S20 Randomly Lags

Time Needed : 10 minutes

Performance issues are pretty annoying as they affect how you use your phone but they’re not really that serious. That said, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Do the forced restart

When it comes to fixing performance-related issues like this, the first thing that you have to do is to the forced restart. It is a simulated battery removal that refreshes your phone’s memory as well as reloads all apps and services. If the random lags are just due to some minor firmware or app-related glitches, then this procedure might be enough to fix it. 1. To do it, press and hold the volume down button and the power key for 10 seconds. Your S20 will turn off and then power back on. 2. Once the Galaxy S20 logo shows on the screen, release both keys and wait until your phone has finished rebooting. When the reboot is finished, try to observe your phone’s performance and see if the lags still occur.galaxy s20 randomly lags forced restart

  2. Reset the settings of your device

If the first solution fails to get rid of the random lags and freezes on your Galaxy S20, then what you have to do next is to reset all the settings. It will bring your phone back to its factory default settings without deleting any of your files, apps or data. Here’s how you do it: 1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 3. Scroll to and tap General management. 4. Touch Reset. 5. Tap Reset settings. 6. Tap the Reset settings button. 7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern. 8. Finally, tap Reset. How To Reset Galaxy S20 Settings Without Deleting Files And Appsreset galaxy s20 settings

  3. Factory reset your phone

If the first two solutions haven’t fixed the problem, then it’s time to reset your phone. Firmware-related issues can always be fixed with a reset. However, you will have to create a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted. When ready, follow either of the guides below so you’ll be guided accordingly: How To Hard Reset Galaxy S20 | A Master Reset GuideHow To Factory Reset Galaxy S20galaxy s20 randomly lags factory reset

When the reset is complete, set up your phone again and see if the problem still occurs or not. But based on our experience, a reset will always fix any firmware issue, provided that it has not been modified in any way.

For those who are reluctant to do the reset, try running your phone in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps. If the random lags do not occur in safe mode, then it means you have installed an app or two that’s causing this problem. Find out which of your apps is the culprit and uninstall it.
