How to troubleshoot your Galaxy S7 with issues playing music or videos
Problem: A couple of weeks ago my S7 randomly stopped playing audio. I tried following the steps that you had already posted but they did not work. My phone is quite new so in my opinion these things shouldn’t be happening just yet. The audio stops playing in the beginning of a video/song then it comes back a second, then disappears again. This continues through the whole song/video. When watching youtube the video continues but not the audio. I tried changing wifi connection and when that didn’t work I tried putting it in safe mode. Nothing changed.
Solution: Have you tried using headphones on your phone while listening to music or watching a video? If not, then we recommend that you should try it so that you can verify if the speaker of your device is defective or not. But while using headphones and the issue persists, then it is possible that an outdated or corrupted files caused the issue. So, to be sure what is really the problem of your phone, we recommend you to do some troubleshooting procedures to determine if it is a firmware or hardware issue. Follow these methods:
Step 1: Delete System Cache Partition
As you said that you already boot your phone in safe mode but it didn’t help to resolve the issue, so, the next thing that you should do is to clear cache partition of your device. The system caches are temporary files stored in the directory that the firmware is using to make it easier and faster for the device to load up those files every time your device needs it. But if these caches are outdated and the firmware still using it that’s would be the reason that performance-related issue occurs without apparent reason. This time, we have to reset the cache directory so that newer files will be generated and could run perfectly to the system. Here’s how:
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
- Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
- When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
- Now highlight the option ‘Yes’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
- Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
- The phone will now reboot longer than usual.
After you perform the procedure try to play a music or video and observe if the issue still happening. If it persists, then you can follow the next method.
Step 2: Reset your phone for it might be a serious firmware problem
Since deleting the system caches failed to fix the problem, there is a chance that a serious firmware issue triggered it and your last option is to reset your phone. Remember, that you will bring back your phone to its original form, meaning, all your files and data saved will be deleted. So, before you perform the steps transfer all of it to your computer or SD card so that it can be restored easily if the issue is fix. This is how you reset your phone:
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
- Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
- When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
- Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
- Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
- The phone will now reboot longer than usual.
I hope after you do the reset the problem will be resolved.
