How to fix your Galaxy J5 that’s stuck on the logo while booting up

Problem: Hello droid guys. I really need your help because my phone only shows the Samsung logo now and it can’t seem to get out from that screen. I already tried turning my phone off and on but it’s still stuck on the logo. I don’t know why it happened or how it started but it just occurred one day and it won’t boot up successfully. My phone is a Galaxy J5. thanks.

Troubleshooting: Being stuck on the logo during the boot up process is a sign of a firmware issue. But there were cases wherein third-party apps as well as hardware problems also resulted to the same problem. So, we really can’t be sure why this is happening to your phone right now. All we can do is to troubleshoot it so that we can have a shot at fixing the problem and making your phone work perfectly again without having to go to a shop. So, for this problem, here’s what I suggest you do:

Step 1: Attempt to boot your phone up in Safe Mode

Booting your phone up in safe mode means you’re temporarily disabling all third-party apps and services. If one or some of them is causing the problem, your device shouldn’t be met with any issues while starting up in this mode. Here are the steps on how to start your phone up in this mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
  3. When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.

Assuming you’ve successfully booted your phone up in safe mode, then you’re already halfway to fixing the problem. All you have to do now is find the app that’s causing the problem and the first thing you need to do is find out if there are apps that need to be updated. If there is, then update them to rule out the possibility that this issue is due to compatibility problem between some apps and the firmware. Here’s how you update those apps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Tap the Menu key and then tap My Apps. To keep your apps automatically updated, tap the Menu key, tap Settings, and then tap Auto-update apps to select the check box.
  4. Choose one of the following options:
    • Tap Update [xx] to update all applications with updates available.
    • Tap an individual application and then tap Update to update a single application.

After the apps are updated and the phone can’t still boot up successfully in normal mode, then start the phone up in safe mode again and then reset the apps that you think are causing the problem. If that won’t work, then you have to uninstall them one by one until the phone successfully starts up normally.

How to reset applications in your Galaxy J5

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Applications.
  4. Tap Application manager.
  5. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap MORE > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  8. Tap Clear cache.

How to uninstall apps from your Galaxy J5

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Applications.
  4. Tap Application manager.
  5. Tap the desired application
  6. Tap Uninstall.
  7. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

Step 2: Attempt to boot your phone up in Recovery Mode

If your phone failed to boot in safe mode, then booting up in Recovery mode is the best thing you should do. Even if your device is currently experiencing serious firmware issues, it should still be able to start in recovery mode. If successful, you can do a couple of things to try and fix this problem but after this and the issue is still happening, you need help from a technician you can do further tests.

The first thing you have to do when in recovery mode is to wipe the cache partition. It will delete all system caches that may be causing the problem especially if some of them have already been corrupted or obsolete. Follow the steps below to start your J5 in recovery mode and wipe cache partition:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the phone still gets stuck on the logo after wiping the cache partition, then restart your phone in recovery mode again and then do the reset. This time though, the files and data that are stored in your phone’s internal storage will be deleted and you may not be able to restore them but you don’t have much of an option here. Still, it’s your call to proceed…

  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If all else fails, bring your phone to a shop and let the tech handle the problem for you.
