How to fix most common texting problems with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge [Solutions & Workarounds]

Text messaging is among the most common features any smartphone can do without a hitch but many #Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (#S7Edge) owners have been complaining about all sorts of SMS and MMS related issues. Problem: After the last update, my Galaxy S7 Edge has stopped playing sounds for received sms messages, even though sound and pop up sms are on.

Troubleshooting: Messages come in but but there are no sounds or notifications playing the moment messages are received, right? It’s the notification settings for the messaging app you’re using. Assuming you’re still using the Messages to send and receive text messages, this is what you need to do:

1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
2. Find and touch Messages.
3. Once inside the app, hit the Menu key in the top-right corner.
4. Choose Settings and tap Manage accounts.
5. Tap the email you’re having issues with.
6. Scroll to ‘Notification Settings.”
7. Make sure message notifications is checked.

For this problem, this is all you need to do but if it fails, then a reset is necessary.

1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
2. Find and tap Settings and then touch Backup and reset.
3. Tap Factory data reset and touch Reset device.
4. If you have screen lock feature turned on, enter your password or PIN.
5. Touch Continue.
6. Tap Delete all to confirm your action.

This should be enough to fix the problem.

Problem: Hi there, i read your forum relating to the split up text messages on the Galaxy S7 Edge. However, when i follow the instructions on how to fix, when i click on the Text Message setting it only shows Delivery Reports. Auto Combination is not an option. Please help, this message disorder is driving me nuts.

Troubleshooting: First off, let me say that features and Settings menu may vary so you really can’t be sure that your unit has the same settings menu as with your friend’s. The point is, if the setting you’re looking for can’t be found under a menu we specify in this post, then try to explore other menu but as far as we know, the Auto Combination option can be found by going to Apps > Settings > Applications > tap on Messages > More settings > Text messages > Auto combination.

If it’s not there, then call your provider and ask why it’s like that and whether or not there’s an alternative way to automatically combine long messages that were received as separate text messages.

Problem: My new Samsung S7 Edge is problem-free except for one issue: No matter who the sender is, when I get a group text, all I get is
“No subject
Message size 1KB
Expires [date/time]” MMS
I tell the sender to just respond to me, not the group, and they can. But group texts (which I rely upon a lot) are no longer coming through. Please tell me this is easy to fix. Haven’t found anything useful online. Thanks.

Troubleshooting: Obviously, your phone is set to automatically convert normal messages into group messages as the phone detects there are more than one contacts in the contacts field. This is how you fixt it: go to Settings > Applications > Messages > More settings > Multimedia messages > disable Group conversation.

Problem: When I text, the reply to my text arrives above instead after. It happens all the time & it’s very difficult when in a conversation to always have to go up to see the reply. I can’t find anything about this problem. Please HELP!!! Thank you!

Troubleshooting: In this case, it’s just the time and date that have to be corrected so make sure your phone is set with proper time and date. More often than not, this is the fix to the problem, however, in cases wherein the problem remains after setting the proper time and date, you really need to reset your phone. So, backup all your data and files and then reset your device:

1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key. NOTE: It doesn’t matter how long you press and hold the Home and Volume Up keys, it won’t affect the phone but by the time you press and hold the Power key, that’s when the phone starts to respond.
3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds. NOTE: The “Installing system update” message may show on the screen for several seconds before displaying the Android system recovery menu. This is just the first phase of the entire process.
5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
8. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

This should fix the problem.

Problem: I am using Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Mobile numbers in sms text are not directly dialable from sms app. I have tried to change the default language from English (US) to English (UK) but there is no option of doing it in latest Android. Feeling really frustrated.
Solution: Default language of the device is based on the language of the country they were released. But mostly it is English (US) as the default. There are ways to change the default language in your device and set them with language you prefer.

1. Swipe down from the status bar to pull down the Notification Panel
2. There is a gear-looking icon or Setting icon, tap it
3. Next, several options will be displayed on screen
4. Navigate through “Language and Input” option
5. Then tap “Language” option
6. There will be several languages displayed on screen, choose the “English (UK)” since that is your preferred language
7. And if your done, the device is set to default language of your choice

Actually, manufacturer’s installed bundle languages spoken all around the world on their device in order for the consumer to choose their preferred language. But these languages are based on consumer software customization (CSC), especially Samsung, meaning there are still languages that are not included.
There are applications online that you can install and add your preferred language, you can simply Google them and instructions are provided for you how to install and use it.

Problem: Won’t receive txts or calls. Was working one minute then suddenly stopped.  Also it sends SMS’s as MMS’s. It’s an expensive way to send a txt without any emojis or images. Only bought this device, from you guys last month.  Help…I’ve done a soft reset.

Answer: It’s basically just the same as one of the problems I addressed above. Your phone may have been set to convert texts into group conversations. So  go to Settings > Applications > Messages > More settings > Multimedia messages > disable Group conversation. That should do it.

Problem: I recently upgraded to the s7 edge, but now when I send pictures through text messages he says they are cut in half or different colors. He is the only one who has told me this is happening. What can I do?

Answer: You just have to find out if it’s an issue with your phone or not, so compose an MMS and send it to your number. If the picture is cut in half or has different colors, then you just have to wipe the cache partition and that should do it. On the other hand, if the picture looks fine then it’s an issue with the recipient’s phone, not yours.

1. Turn off the phone.

Problem: After sending a text message to a single person, I get a reply from them that is now in a group text with them and myself. It shows like (Brian, Me (2)). I hate this because of I can’t get it to stop. I just want to text that 1 person and not a group text with myself and that 1 person.

Solution: You just have to turn off or disable group conversation and this problem will be taken care of.  Go to Settings > Applications > Messages > More settings > Multimedia messages > disable Group conversation.

Problem: When I’m sending normal text messages, every few minutes or so the texts I send will have the moving circle (sending in process) and it will stay there moving for a few minutes before disappearing and finally sending. After it finally sends, for the next 5 to 10 minutes texts will send fine and quick but then all of a sudden texts will take a few minutes again. It’s really annoying…….what’s going on? Thanks, Rick.

Troubleshooting: While we want to help all our readers, for this particular issue, it’s the provider that can help you because apparently it’s a network issue, unless the phone has a problem with its radio hardware. So, try calling your provider and see if it’s a network problem but if it’s not, you better bring the phone to the store and have the tech check it for you.

Problem: I just exchanged my s7 edge through at&t because I minor problem, but now this s7 edge won’t receive texts while using the wifi calling feature. I have horrible service in my basement so I always turn airplane mode on, then my wifi and then enable wifi calling. Ever since I exchanged my phone I can’t receive the texts I can only send them. Any ideas on what I can do? Thank you very much!!

Solution: It must be due to the fact that Wi-Fi may be turned off when the phone becomes idle after a few minutes of not being used. So, go to Wi-fi settings and set it so that it will stay on even when the phone sleeps. The problem will be fixed after that.
