Customize Your Reddit Feed: 4 Effective Ways for Better Browsing

Customizing your Reddit feed allows you to tailor your browsing experience to your interests, making it easier to find and engage with content that matters to you. Here are four ways to customize your Reddit feed, including detailed steps and tips to enhance your experience.

Creating Custom Feeds

Custom feeds are personalized collections of subreddits that you can curate to focus on specific topics. Here’s how to create and manage them:

On Desktop:

  1. Navigate to the Left Sidebar: Log in to Reddit and look at the left-hand sidebar. Scroll down until you see the section labeled "Custom Feeds."
  2. Create a New Custom Feed: Click on "+ Create a custom feed" and give your feed a name. You can also add a description and decide whether to make it public or private.
  3. Add Subreddits: Visit a subreddit you want to include in your custom feed. Click the three dots in the upper right corner of the community details box and select "Add to Custom Feed." Choose the custom feed you just created and click "Update".

On Mobile App:

  1. Access Custom Feeds: Open the Reddit app and tap the three bars in the upper left corner. Scroll down and select "Custom Feeds."
  2. Create a New Custom Feed: Tap the blue link "Add new custom feed" and give your feed a name.
  3. Add Subreddits: Go to a subreddit you want to add, tap the three dots in the upper right corner, and select "Add to Custom Feed." Choose the custom feed you want to add it to.

Personalizing Your Home Feed

Your home feed is composed of content from the subreddits you are subscribed to. Here’s how to personalize it:

  1. Subscribe and Unsubscribe: To personalize your home feed, subscribe to subreddits on topics you're interested in and unsubscribe from those you're not. This will ensure that your home feed reflects your preferences.
  2. Toggle Recommendations: If you're seeing recommendations, you can toggle them off to see only content from your subscribed subreddits. On desktop, you can switch to the old Reddit UI to achieve this by changing "www" to "new" in the URL.

Customizing Feed Settings

Customizing your feed settings can further refine your Reddit experience:

On Desktop:

  1. Access Feed Settings: Click on your profile icon in the top-right corner, then click "User Settings."
  2. Adjust Feed Settings: Click on "Feed Settings" and make changes such as enabling or disabling adult content, and setting default sorting for your home feed and communities.

On Mobile App:

  1. Access Settings: Tap your profile photo, then "Settings" at the bottom.
  2. Adjust Settings: Scroll down to "View Options" and toggle home feed recommendations and personalized ads.

Changing Feed Views

You can also customize how you view your feed by changing the display settings:

On Desktop:

  1. Change View Options: Click the "view" button in the ribbon above your feed on your home page.
  2. Select View: Choose between "Card," "Classic," or "Compact" views. The "Classic" view reduces images to thumbnail size, and "Compact" view doesn't display images.

On Mobile App:

  1. Access Settings: Tap your profile photo, then "Settings" at the bottom.
  2. Change View: Scroll down to "View Options" and switch between "Card" and "Classic" views.

By following these steps, you can create a highly personalized Reddit experience that aligns with your interests and preferences.
