Before you start adding friends on your Switch, there are three basic things that you must do.
The first one is to ensure that you console is running the latest software version. To do this, just connect the Switch to the internet via wifi or ethernet, go to the Nintendo Home screen, select System Settings icon> System > System Update.
After updating you’ve updated the software, you can then go ahead and sign up for a Nintendo account. Then, when you’re ready with your Nintendo account, you then ask for the Friend code. This is a code that you must enter later on so your Switch can send a friend request.
There are two ways to add a friend in Nintendo Switch. One is by sending a friend request to your friend, and the other is by accepting the friend request sent by your friend.
How to add a friend on Nintendo Switch?
In order to add your friend on your Nintendo Switch, follow the steps below:
Go to the Nintendo Home screen.
Select your profile icon at the upper left.
Select Add Friend.
On the right panel, select Search with Friend Code.
Enter the friend code to tell your Switch to begin searching for your friend’s account.
That’s it! All you have to do now is to wait until your friend accepts your request on his or her console.
Other ways to add a friend on Nintendo Switch
As you can see in the Add Friend section, there are a number of ways to connect with others.
Received Friend Request.
The first in the list of options is Received Friend Request. If your friend has sent you a friend request ahead of time, selecting this option should be an easy way to accept the request.
Search for Local Users.
If you are in the same room with your friend, you can use this option to add him or her. This option can work even if you don’t have internet connection on your console. Your Nintendo Switch will temporarily store your friend request locally in its internal storage. We suggest that you connect to the internet afterwards so that the request can be sent to Nintendo’s servers.
Search for Users You Played With.
If you have already played with other people online before, this option can come handy in adding friends. Your Nintendo Switch keeps track of other users you have interacted with in the past so all you have to do is to select this option and go over the list to search your friend request.
