Solution: Troubleshooting a Google Pixel 3 when it stops charging or not turning on is easy. Unless the real cause of the problem is hardware malfunction, these issues are usually fixable on an end user’s level. Here’s what you can do:

Use another set of charging accessories

In any of these cases (except Case 1), the first thing that must be done is to check if there’s a problem with the charging cable or adapter. You can do that by using another set of known working cable and adapter. Preferably, you want to test out those from another Google Pixel 3 to be sure there’s no incompatibility issues. If there’s a family member that uses another Pixel 3 or 3 XL, use his or her charging accessories to charge the phone for at least 30 minutes.

If you can’t borrow any other set of cable or adapter from someone, visit your local Google store and use their charger.

Forced restart

Sometimes, your Google Pixel 3 may become unresponsive after its software encounters a bug it can’t resolve. This can give the appearance of the device freezing or not turning on. In many cases, a Google Pixel that’s stuck in this situation can recover by simply forcing it to turn off. You have to simulate the effects of a “battery pull” in order do this. Simply press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds. Afterwards, wait for your phone to complete the reboot sequence and see what happens.

Check the charging port

There are some cases where a Pixel may fail to charge properly or at all due to an issue with the charging port. Make sure to check if there’s any visible damage to the port, or if there’s dirt or foreign object inside. Pocket lint or dirt may block the cable during charging resulting to improper charge. If possible, try to inspect the port using a magnifying tool. If you don’t have that tool and you suspect that there’s dirt inside, use a can of compressed air to clean it out. DO NOT stick anything inside to avoid damaging the system.

Just remember, this troubleshooting step does not recommend that you open the phone up to see the physical state of the USB port. If it’s already broken, you won’t probably know about it for sure unless you run some tests. If the phone has stopped charging after it got wet or after dropping it, you should send it in for repair.

Charge thru a computer

Some users were able to revive their device that won’t charge after connecting it to a computer thru a USB cable. We suggest that you try it too to see if there’s any difference. Let the phone charge this way for at least an hour. Afterwards, do a forced restart and see what happens.

Use a portable charger

Another way to charge your Pixel 3 is by using a portable charger or powerbank. Some third party portable chargers can provide more than enough voltage that may jumpstart a battery. This is a hit-and-run suggestion though and mostly never works.

Contact Google

If all the suggestions above won’t help at all, don’t stress yourself out and simply let Google examine the device.
