S4 Sound Not Working

Problem: I have a problem with my sound.  Whenever I go to an app like play music or an app like Pandora the music will play for a bit then turn off.  This also happens with videos but the video will continue playing.  I have tried to take my battery out but nothing happens, I tried to do a soft reset but nothing happens.

Solution: It’s possible that this problem is caused by a software issue. The first thing you need to do is to clear out the temporary data in your phone as this could be causing the problem. To do this you need to start the phone in recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of your phone. Restart the phone normally then check if the issue still occurs.

If you are still having the same problem then the next thing you should do is to check if a third party app is causing the problem. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. See if the problem still occurs. If it doesn’t then an app is the likely suspect. I suggest you find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S4 Sound Turns Off When Phone Is Tapped

Problem: whenever my phone is barely tapped or hits something, the sound completely goes out. sometimes if I wait a minute it will come back but most of the time I have to turn my phone completely off.

Solution: This problem could be caused by a loose connection inside the phone. You should however check if the problem is software related by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset from the recovery mode. If after the reset the problem still occurs then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Sound Goes Off

Problem: Sound goes off many times a day. Making a call I can’t hear the person but they can hear me. Restarting the phone cures the problem for a couple of minutes or hours.  Nothing else wrong, but this is major drama as it is used for business. I’ve tried to do a factory reset but it doesn’t accept the password I thought it was so can’t achieve this. I put any apps I can onto the SD card also to free up phone memory. Hope you can shine some light on this for me, thanks.

Solution: If restarting the phone resolves the issue temporarily then it’s very likely that the problem is caused by a glitch in the phone software. I suggest you backup your phone data first. After backing up your phone data start your phone in recovery mode. From here you can do a factory reset without entering any password.

S4 Intermittent Sound

Problem: Intermittent sound resolved by squeezing the top part of the phone, discovered that fix by accident. Multiple factory resets since the issue and have gone a couple of months since one lucky “fix” where it’s been normal. Looking at the connections under the case, everything is connected. The only part I’ve ever replaced was the charging/microphone part that runs down the side of the phone (around the battery) to the mini USB port. This seems irrelevant to me as the problem didn’t occur until 6 months after that. Summary: ALL audio ceases and phone locks up occasionally. Restarts/resets do not fix this, but squeezing the phone like a stress ball typically serves as a temporary fix.

Solution: If squeezing the top portion of the phone fixes the sound issue then it could be caused by a loose connection in the phone circuit. I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S4 No Sound Except Through Bluetooth

Problem: No sound except through Bluetooth and on startup; not when playing media through speaker or ear buds, and no sound during call. People on the other end of calls are also unable to hear my voice.

Solution: The phone’s internal speaker and microphone could be damaged. Try recording a voice clip using the phone’s voice recorder app then  check the recorded file. If you can’t hear any sound then proceed with backing up your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check if the issue still occurs. If it does then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Low Sound

Problem: The maximum sound on my device for ringtone and notifications has seemed to become lower somehow, and when watching a video or on a call, the sound is very low and barely audible, however works perfectly fine and loudly with earphones, any ideas why this may be and how to fix it? Thanks

Solution: Have you tried placing the volume in its maximum setting already? You should also check the speaker grills if anything is blocking it such as dirt or debris. If necessary clean this grill using a can of compressed air. If your phone has a case installed then try taking it out as well as this may muffle the sound of your phone speakers.

If the volume is still too low then try to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run which makes it easier to detect if an app you installed is causing the problem. If the sound increases in this mode then the problem is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If however the problem still occurs in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If the sound is still low even after a reset then the problem could already be caused by a hardware issue. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Sound Stopped Working

Problem: Hi, Sound has stopped working on facebook, snapchat, calls etc. No known reason as haven’t done anything. Help!!!

Solution: Make sure to check if the volume level is set to maximum. It’s also best to turn off the Bluetooth of your phone since the device could be connecting to a Bluetooth speaker causing the phone’s speaker not to work.

If the problem still occurs then check if a third party app is causing this by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the sound works in this mode then the problem is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If your phone still does not have any sound even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If the problem persists even after the reset then this could already be a hardware related issue. If this is the case then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
