Spotify keeps crashing on Samsung Galaxy S9 (easy fix)

The error message “Unfortunately, Spotify has stopped” on your Samsung Galaxy S9 is just one of the signs of an app crash. Other signs may include immediate force closing of the app after opening or you may still be able to use the app for a few minutes before it closes on its own. Whatever signs you’re getting, it’s the same thing. You may be able to get rid of those signs by yourself by doing some basic troubleshooting procedures; that’s what I’m going to share with your in this post.

We will try to consider every possibility and rule them out one by one until the problem is fixed so that you may continue using Spotify and listen to your favorite playlists and tracks. Continue reading as this post may be able to help you one way or another.

How to fix Samsung Galaxy S9 with Spotify that keeps crashing

Based on experience, I know this problem is pretty easy to fix and it’s actually not as complicated as it may seem. In fact, you can fix it immediately by removing the app from your device but that’s not really a solution, right? We want you to continue using Spotify because we know how much you love music. With all that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about this problem:

First solution: Reboot your phone

At this point, we don’t know yet why Spotify keeps crashing so we’ll try to rule out the possibility that it’s just a minor issue with either the app or the firmware. If it’s just a glitch then a reboot can fix it so hit that power key to restart your device. If Spotify still crashes after that, then try this:

  • Press and hold the volume down and power buttons at the same time for 10 seconds or more.

This procedure is what we call the Forced Reboot and it’s very effective in dealing with minor firmware and app-related issues. However, if the problem continues after this, then you should move on to the next procedure.


Second solution: Clear cache and data of Spotify

This will bring the device back to its default settings or configuration. If this problem is limited to the app, then this solution is more than enough to fix it.

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Spotify.
  5. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Cached data.
  8. Tap CLEAR.

Bear in mind that all your settings and preferences alone with downloaded music tracks will be deleted if you did this. You may have to log into your account again after this and redownload tracks you previously downloaded. If the problem still occurs after this, then try the next solution.

Third solution: Uninstall and reinstall Spotify

Instead of just updating the app to address possible compatibility issue between the app and firmware, it’s best that you remove the app completely from your phone and then reinstall it. Doing so will remove Spotify’s association with other apps and services and reinstalling it will make sure you have the latest version of the app.

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Spotify.
  6. Review the notification then tap OK to confirm.
  7. Reboot your phone to refresh it’s memory and other connections.

Now, to reinstall Spotify, follow these steps…

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Type ‘spotify’ in the search box.
  4. Select Spotify then tap Install.
  5. To continue, review the required app permissions then tap Accept.

These three procedures can surely fix this problem and make Spotify run smoothly on your phone again.

Third solution: Reset All Settings

You need to do this procedure if the previous methods failed to fix the problem. This will bring the phone back to its factory default settings without deleting your files and data. In other words, it’s safe for both your phone and files.

  1. From the Home screen, gap the Apps icon.
  2. Find and tap Settings.
  3. Tap Backup and reset.
  4. Tap Reset settings.
  5. Tap Reset Settings again to confirm your action.

Reset Settings returns the device to factory defaults with the exception of Security, Language and Accounts. It does not affect personal data and downloaded applications.

Fourth solution: Master reset

If, by any chance, the problem continues after doing the previous procedures, then it’s necessary to reset your device. But before you actually do that, make sure you make a backup of your important data and files, then follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
