Solved Samsung Galaxy S8 Not Turning On After Software Update

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 is a flagship phone released last year that changed the way the South Korean company makes premium devices. This phone now ditches the physical home button instead relying on a virtual home button on the display. With the home button missing the phone can now use a much larger 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display yet still having a similar external dimension as the S7. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 not turning on after software update issue and other related problems.

S8 Not Turning On After Software Update

Problem: Hi! I have a problem with my Samsung S8, it won’t turn on after I updated it to the latest version this midnight. When my phone has been successfully updated, I typed my password on my lock screen but it keeps “loading” to go to my home screen but still I waited for it, until my phone turned off. So I charged it because I thought my phone battery died. After my phone charges I turned it on and typed my password again like what I did before, but still it won’t turn on. I tried to troubleshoot it but it is not helping also.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do right now is to do a soft reset on the phone. This is done by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Your phone should restart after this. If the issue still persists then remove the microSD card of the phone ( if you have one installed) then proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Try starting the phone in Safe Mode. If the phone can start in this mode then the problem is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode then perform a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

S8 Only Turns On When Charging

Problem: Samsung S8 only turns on when plugged in and charging. When phone is unplugged it switches off. I have rebooted it wiped it and factory reseted it but still only turns on and works perfectly when charging.

Solution: It’s very likely that the problem is caused by a faulty battery or power IC. The best way to check if this is the case is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

Solution: The first thing you will need to do in this case is to perform a soft reset by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Your phone should restart after this. If it doesn’t then proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris trapped in this port.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger.
  • If the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. You should also try charging the phone from a computer USB port.

S8 Charging But Not Turning On

Problem: I have  a Samsung Galaxy S8 with the carrier “orange”. This morning, I put my phone on charge and the last time, I looked it was at 90% and charging. There were no updates pending; it was simply on charge. A few minutes later, I go to use my phone, and the screen is black … I have tried a soft reset, but to no avail. I have left it on charge now, but the screen is still black and also the charging light is not on. Please may you help me? There were no error codes before this black screen.

Solution: Try starting your phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then I suggest that you do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

If the screen still does not work in recovery mode then it’s likely that the display is damaged. You will need to have this checked at a service center.
