Note 8 Only Works With S Pen

Problem: Hi! I have a problem regarding my Note 8 screen. Suddenly, the screen was unable to touch. But the S-Pen is working on screen the  buttons are working as well, such as the volume and power buttons. I did all the things I have read the can help, I reboot, I clean the cache, i reset the phone, i dialed *#2663# and still it won’t work. Please help me and save me from spending thousands from repair. Thank you so much.

Solution: Since you have already performed a factory reset and the issue still occurs then this is most likely caused by a faulty digitizer already. You will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it fixed. If this device is still under warranty and you have not dropped it or got it wet then you won’t have to spend any amount to get this issue fixed.

Note 8 Screen Is Frozen Black

Problem: (I’m not sure what Android Version I have, fyi, since I can’t open my device to check.) I was opening a page with the Chrome app and it was being a little slow and noticed the wifi sign wasn’t showing. When I checked, the wifi sign, instead of being lines (connected) or grayed out  (not connected) it was completely black, like a black pizza slice. I couldn’t click on it or do anything with it and at that point my screen kinda froze up. I decided to restart my phone, so I held the power button and hit restart and my phone started to go through the motions or restarting, but froze on the white screen with part of the yellow sprint symbols starting to appear. I THINK the system itself restarted though because a call came in but I couldn’t see the screen to answer it. I can’t turn it off either because I can’t see the screen to choose power off.

Solution: The first thing that you should do in this case is a soft reset. This is done by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Your phone should restart after this. If the screen remains black then you should start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset from here. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. Once the reset is complete restart the phone.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

Note 8 Screen Goes Black During Calls

Problem: While my wife is on a call the screen goes dark, it does not stay on. So for example: she calls a number and it says to hit option 1-9. She goes to hit the button and the screen has gone dark. By the time she gets the screen up again and goes to hit the option button the IVR has times her out and she has missed out. She has the screen display set for 10 min. I have checked all possible settings the I can think of and can not seem to find the answer.

Solution: It looks like the problem is caused by the delay in the sensor detecting that the phone is not placed in the callers ear anymore. If you have already checked the phone settings and it is correct then proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe mode and check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 8 Screen IS Unresponsive After Drop

Problem: Dropped the phone 2 months ago, screen cracked, but worked perfectly until now. Very recently, the screen has been very strange. Most of the time the screen is unresponsive. Sometimes, the screen will respond, but only for 5 or 6 seconds, at which point, the screen will react as if it’s being touched in lots of different places for about 4 seconds, then go unresponsive to touch for another 20 minutes. The fingerprint sensor and volume keys also work totally fine

Solution: The best thing you can do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset check if the screen is still unresponsive. If it is then the problem is most likely caused by a damaged display assembly which needs to be replaced due to the crack. I suggest that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
